I was under the impression that Big Time account holders wouldn't be switched until we recieved a letter from telecom with the option etc.

"If you are on the Big Time plan you will receive a letter from us in the coming months with your options and giving you advanced notice before we need to move you to another broadband plan." doozy - Telecom.

I have yet to recieve a letter but was suprised to find out that my plan had been changed to a 20GB plan this morning. My brother rang them up this morning and was told by Telecom that they had spoken to my father about it (My father doesn't speak any English so I have no idea who they talked to). They offered this months 20GB plan for free but I still feel cheated as I thought I had atleast a month left to decide if I wanted to stay with Telecom or switch ISP (as well as decide on an ISP if I do switch).

Should I demand that they put me back on Big Time even if its only for a month? (Can I?)

Opinions and recommendations welcome.

you could always ring them and clarify whom they spoke to, I thought they record all transactions and can email you the voice transcript. As for being cheated, do you use in excess of 20Gb, did you ever have issues with download speed. My understanding is that big time was removed as they were having having speed issues. If you feel that stongly abour the removal of big time from your account without "your authoriation" then you could ask for it to be reinstated but I think the compensation offer isnt that bad

who is the account holder? if it is you, then whatever your father said is irrelevant.
If it is your father, then it's bad luck. he gets to decide. :D

1) The account is in both our names.
2) Like I said my father doesn't speak English so they couldn't have spoken to him.

Maybe a stupid question.. but have you asked your father if he talked to someone? There may be a chance (if small) that the person ringing up spoke the same language as your father?

My father knows nothing about it, and given the fact that my father isn't home during the day and the fact that my father doesn't know anything in regards to broadband so will always pass it on to one of my brothers (Even if the caller spoke the same language as my father he wouldn't know what they were talking about and would've told them to call back later). So no. I'm assume they called they called another account holder or another account holder called them and they switch the wrong account. I know that Big Time users will eventually be switched over but the fact that I wasn't given any proper notice of the change (I wouldn't have known I was switched over if I hadn't checked my online account).

I doubt it.  That plan is being discontinued.

I would change the broadband plan to something that suits you better, and move on.

Do you use more than 20GB? If not then I agree with others, it is time to move on.

If you do, what's so hard about calling them back and changing to a more suitable plan (if they have one) or changing providers? As you point out you would have had to do that anyway.

If they asked the 'account holder' the right questions and recieved the right answers, then 'whoever' they spoke to commited fraud by deliberately misleading the customer services representative as to who they were.

Haven't received a letter yet.

@jim4nz you probably have some other problem, local/national traffic is fine on Big Time in my experience.
