From a logical point of view, using 40 AV engines to check files means you're going to get 40 times the number of false alarms.

I haven't used VirusTotal - does it tell you which engine(s) reported the file as a virus/trojan? Or which ones showed it as clean?

that was a bizarre 'logic'. using 40 AV engine = 40 opinions for you to make an informed decision. Two head is better than one.

i personally use Hitman 3.5 as 2nd opinion on top of my avira antivir.
