Okay now im pissed. For the last week my 2mbps plan from xtra has not been going full speed. It started last week when the phone went down but the broadband still worked. I was getting connection at 640kbps. Rang telecom and they sent someone out. Took 2 days and then phone was working. Broadband now connected at 1-1.4mbps. Now this is really annoying because up untill this I was get 2mbps all the time everytime since I changed over when they upgraded the speeds in Nov 2004. How is it that all of a sudden my speed is halved? Telecom have sent someone out already and they say everything is fine and it is going at full speed. However the speed test and the connect rate tell a different story. Upon ringing telecom tonight the lady on the phone tells me that "It's up to 2mbps maximum, so you will get anything up to that". Not satisfied I ask to speak to someone else who wont give me such a generic answer. Surely there has to be a reason why my speed is cut in half right? So she tells me that a team leader will ring me shortly to discuss it. Later she calls me back and tells me that she has been discussing with her co-workers and they tell her that the speed I am getting is unacceptable and they are sending someone out for the second time to have a look at it and rewire it.

HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM???? YOUR SPEED HALVED AS OF LATE??

And so we are going up to 3.5mbps but what is the point if I now can't even get 2??

Any answers that can help my head get around this much appreciated.

Maybe you will get 2 once they increase it to 3.5???
(Just kidding).

Its possible your equipment could be the culprit? I have an 11b wifi card, which connects at full rate, a nice modern ADSL modem, full signal strength, everything reporting a top connection, but throuighput is only around 800kbps at the best of times.

Turn of another machine in the house with an 11g card, and I speed up (and its a clean machine, its not hogging bandwidth).

For weeks I thought it was my internet connection, when it really wasnt.

Check everything, try a friends modem & network cable (and a friends laptop if possible).

It may just be a $2 part somewhere...

Will make sure you check your phone bill when it comes out, you shouldn't get a charge for the second call-out. And when the tech comes make sure they show you the test result on their equipment.

Pretty much... watch them do the test.
