xpd: 2 laptops (one with Steam installed) , 1 PS3, 1 iPhone all online. I keep under 5gb most months. (Plus whoever else wanders in that Ive given the password to before)

What are you others upto ? Nothing illegal I hope ;)

Lets put it this way, I probably use between 5-10gig only on youtube videos each month... Then there is always new steam games, updates for steam games (5-10gig I dunno).

Thats all legal stuff right there and its at 10-20gig already... (And I'm pretty sure that others use more on steam too).

I had to download 2 games last month, 13gigs for World of Warcraft Cata beta and Lord of the rings online which was 10gigs.

Its very easy to use up data... the notion that only people that use larger amounts of data might be using it all for illegal stuff is kinda old fashioned! :P

We only have the one computer, I feel sorry for larger families/flats that have to stick to 40gig >.<

Too true - I downloaded the CIV 5 demo on the weekend, and somehow it got corrupted (it wouldn't unpack) so I had to download it again - that's already 5GB.

Plus whatever I buy off iTunes (HD TV episodes fromt the US store) are over 1Gb each.

Plus the kids on Youtube.

Plus more and more content is moving to HD (youtube, movie trailers, TV) that it can easily double data usage in a month.

Of course if you torrent on top of this then that's another story...

I agree. There is a massive amount of completely legal content out there now, not to mention voip, video calling friends/family, etc.

I have a paid subscription to watch NHL games online...I *could* watch 40 or so games per week at about 1 GB per. I watch gridiron which are also about 1 GB each. Add tvnz on demand, youtubing, my son playing xbox and steam (not sure how much he's using for downloads on steam, but his usage is significant), 2 other people using data...I could easily go through 100 GB or more with completely legal content.

I'm glad to hear that telecom are looking at new plans as they are sorely needed (plus being able to buy extra data caps at reasonable prices would be good too). Here's hoping they come out soon!

Telecoms Phone reps have been abit loose tongued apparently from what we have heard, No details, but they are dropping hints to customers.

On another note, Moved house on Friday, after being told before hand that Phone and Internet at the new address is available, we now find out that the Net isn't.

The Damn Harewood Exchange is FULL! then why tell us its available, Not happy.

Hitting Telecom up for credit or something on my T-Stick, as we use the net for work. hmmmm if they don't hurry up might look at Vodafone Wireless.

When you move house, they can't check if the exchange is full or not, they can only see if it's available on the exchange, which is what they told you.

Increased caps are a must or at least make YouTube unmetered ( we live in hope ). The reality is we are all now using broadband and decent data caps are required. What happens when you watch the news, they say "see the full interview on our website" etc etc. 3 On Demand and TVNZ On Demand is advertised highly and people are making use of the net.

I hope this is what Telecom are going to give us if this is the rumour.

I very much agree. I bought and downloaded some Steam games without thinking and 2 days into my month used my entire 20GB cap, and had sub-standard speed for the remainder of the month.

I am sure that if the ISP's approcached businesses like Steam they could charge them a flat rate to have their data zero rated for the ISP's customers. It would make sense for both the ISP and for Steam or other content providers...

I xpect this to be the next business model.
