Ive got a Nokia 6255 an never had a problem loosing txt messages or running out of memoy for new txt messages.

But my friends got one and apparently it keeps droping txt messages before they have been read and when they go to send one it cant save a copy becasue the memory is full (it still sends).

I checked for lastest s/w version (2600), still had heaps of "handset" memory free 6.1MB and a seperate memoy card installed with 96MB free.

What is the limit for the number of txt messages in the "in" and "out" box on the Nokia 6255?

The limit is 100 messages total.
If the memory is full when trying to receive a new one it will say memory and the message wont arrive- ever. Turning on message overwriting is the only way to solve it. If you select sent items and inbox, it will delete the messages in sent items first starting with the oldest and when that is empty and and your inbox is full it will move to the inbox. So any messages you want to save, it is best to move to another folder or they will get deleted eventually

aslo, the memory in the Nokia devices is not dynamic, so the 6.1MB you mention has no bearing on the allotted memory for SMS store...
