garvani: Dont change it on the router. Change it in your network settings on your pc. Its in the ipv4 properties of your network connection

Isn't it possible to change the DNS on the router and therefore avoid the need to change it on every single device that connects to it?

I'm using an RTA1320 with Apple Airport Extreme Base Station

Of course you can :), its different for all brands of router though, so you will have to trudge your way through your own to find out where to do it.

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Thanks, I got all confused because I was looking for the option in the RTA1320 when in fact of course I needed to change it in the Airport Extreme. All sorted thanks!

garvani: it will still appear in your network list..
If your using vista or win7 goto: start button, control panel, network and sharing centre, then on the left "change adapter settings", in the list you will see wireless network connection with your dlink dwa-125, right click and goto properties, double click internet protocol version 4, and click use the following dns server, type in the numbers i gave you then click ok..

Thanks for the instruction, that seems better now :)

All good, glad to help :). Once telecom have fixed their problem, go back in and reverse what we just did by clicking the obtain dns server automatically.

Newbie Telecom customer here after having a google on the subject.

Issues trying to connect to sites like fontspring.com, di.fm and sky.fm, also issues with youtube not fully loading thumbnails.

Started yesterday afternoon some time, internet radio just stopped.

Issue reported to Telecom a couple of hours ago. sky.fm just started running again, but service not smooth and interrupted.

garvani: Set static dns to the "old" alien xtra dns server, this has resolved it for the 3 people i have had ring so far today.. There is something up with the defualt dns servers they use in the broadband router, setting it to the following dns will use there backup dns servers which don't have the same problems.

202.27.184.3
202.27.184.5

Great info! I can finally browse the forums I use without ripping my hair out in the process :)

Thanks!

Just a FYI - I've shifted a web site from port 80 to 8080 and suddenly the Xtra BB customer can see their web site again.

So it seems it isn't just DNS, there is also some Cache Farm issue by the look of it :(

I've contacted Xtra... but you know...  these sort of problems are nearly impossible to get someone to look at.

I've switched back to my original DNS settings (the same as when I noticed the original problem) and a lot seems to be working again, apart from kiwiblog.co.nz still not loading the Home page: the heading and the blue left sidebar loads, but not the stories in the main centre pane.

I've had the same problems for most of yesterday (thumbnails missing on YouTube etc). Today however, I can't seem to stream any videos from YouTube or Vimeo. A trip to speedtest.net on the New York server seems alright though (certainly not great but I'm used to that)

This morning I have 3 more reports of Xtra customers not being able to access our USA hosted web server on port 80.  This is starting to cause a fair degree of negative feelings, as not everyone immediately believes this isn't "our" fault :(

I hope someone at Xtra is being locked in a room and told not to come out until it is fixed ;)

All video streaming is working for me again now. Weird. But glad it's going again.

I haven't noticed any issue with traffic, but then again I'm using a static IP with a proxy cache bypass in place which leads me to believe it's another cache issue. The transparent proxy cache was switched back on around 25th Jan '11 but is now a lot harder to detect.
