Right o

So i have a client - pharmacy in Hastings who cant communicate with smtp.xtra.co.nz
We use a legacy application that does not support SSL so send.xtra.co.nz is out of the question but these front line support people just cant seem to grasp that.
Its part of the flybuys system that sends a daily report with all the points to award to people via a scheduled application via the smtp server of our isp.

So they use Telecom.

I cant get outlook express to go via smtp.xtra.co.nz, and i cant telnet.

Now theres a confusing word. Telnet. They dont seem to understand that from any other branch that i VNC across to that I am able to successfully telnet to smtp.xtra.co.nz on port 25. I can even do so from a few branches that use Orcon or Slingshot. But not this particular branch that uses telecom.

I got port 25 outgoing unblocked over the weekend thinking some firewall config could be wrong at telecoms end and it included smtp.xtra.co.nz in the list of hosts to block. but no avail.

Even tried swapping the modem and using my personal laptop to remove any onsite firewalls out of the equasion.

Yet they cant seem to grasp the concept that people still use smtp.xtra.co.nz and wont help me any further.

Rant over for now.

Finally - 4th call got me put through to someone in complex technical support who was able to help.

Had been put on the antispam list in janurary - before I took over. Old techs just changed the email to send.xtra.co.nz and didnt bother with the rewards reporting system. I got a nice backlog for the manager to fax through now.

Guys name was hitesh or itesh - something like that. Incredibly helpful and was able to give me an answer in minutes.

Might be an idea for a 1st level customer support script to be created for outlook express error 0x800CCC67. It should have instructions to have the customer put through to CTS or to check the antispam security log from smtp.xtra.co.nz to see if the customer has been put on it.

Now in 24 hours points will start flowing agian.
