Hello!

I have a client who recently moved their domain/email away from Xtra to another provider. However it seems when somebody who is still on Xtra sends them an email Xtra is using the incorrect MX (old) records for the domain.

Anyone know anyway around this. Xtra tech support couldn't help.

Cheers

What is the TTL for the records and when did you transfer the domain?

Hi,

Domain was transferred late last week, TTL on the zone file is set to 14400.

Cheers

They most likely have the old version of your zone file hanging around on their server.  If you have access to a linux box try running "dig @alien.xtra.co.nz MX yourdomain.co.nz".

Unfortunately Xtra are notoriously bad at fixing this in my experience.  Just keep trying to get through to someone who understands what the issue is.   They simply need to remove the zone file on their DNS servers. Laughing

If anyone has a good contact at Xtra who could help fix this, that'd be great!

You may also find the problem is a well known and accepted problem with Telecom's e-mail servers which (if you hosted your e-mail through them as POP or as a SMTP backup) will still think they are authoritative for the SMTP.

This is a manual change on the e-mail server, which often gets missed during the DNS change. Phone complex business faults and they will resolve it for you.

Please do not use NZNOG for support requests, it is not the intention of that list.
