So i get my shiny new samsung a920 3days ago Smile

All is going well, found how to use QPST to put in java apps and games/ringtones direclty to the memory etc

Then yesterday i get a txt from telecom that says:

"From telecom: Yr mobile needs software upgrade 4 new Music Store services from 11/6....visit your telecom dealer 4 info...."

So i rock on up and say give me the new software and they say well its gonna take 5-10 woking days cos we gotta send it off
but we can give u a crappy loan phone in the mean time........yeah right!

Anyone know what this upgrade does and if i need it ive noticed on the sprintusers forurms that their latest firware version is one greater then mine (zn06 or something like that) is that the upgrade?

Has this software only just been realesed or what or is it really just a settings change that i could do myself with the SPC.......

Im not happy that they want me to part with my new toy for 2weeks just after i got it, do u think i can convince them to send off a new phone get that updated then ill swap my phone for the updated one....

ANy other phone models get this txt also???

You can't compare the experience from Sprint users with a Vodafone mobile, because these are different networks, even using different technologies.

Arghhh. This was before my first coffee on a Sunday morning... Sorry all!!! I read "... New Zealand" in the forum topic and thought I read "Vodafone New Zealand". Really sorry for the confusion.

Second time I have to say sorry this morning. I am in need of a coffee.

surely you could expect them to swap out to a new phone out of the box. As in if you purchased it after the required upgrade date the stock being sold should be updated

Yea im hoping, i will go back to the store where i bought it as i kinda know the people there and hopefully see if they can give me an updated phone but I don't think its that likely and id have to put in all my settings again...if the update only allows me to access the music store then im not worried as i cant afford to download songs @3.50 a pop especially when i can put put them on my memory card anyway

And if anyone else with a samsung a920 or a900 wants to learn how to install java apps/games ringtones/mp3s over the included data cable then PM me.

On another note on the telecom site it says the phone has a modem but i read somewhere here that dun over usb/bluetooth wont work in NZ with my model, which is a pain as i was going to use it with my laptop while away. Telecom really needs to mention this on there website or at the store.......not good enough! Will there be a fix???

DUN works with the Harrier and Apache Pocket PCs... It will also work with the Nokia 6255 (?)... I am sure Telecom NZ does not cripple the DUN, unlike Sprint and Verizon.

Unfortuantly....from http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?ForumId=39&TopicId=7556

jama: Telecom did not cripple the phone - quite simply it is not currently compatible with current Telecom EVDO setup.

jama: No wont work over USB either. Sorry I can't give you the technical details even though I know what they are.

Yea i think so, anyway it turns out that the rep in teh telecom store didn't seem to know waht she was talking about

I tried to access the store today and it said, you need to download an update to access this....

So i accept and then it says download failed

I rang telecom support and after a while spoke to a tech who said that they were haveing major troubles with the A920 since they updated the music store and no A920 could access it but that i wouldnt have to/shouldnt have been told i had to send it away

So looks like they are trying to fix the problems at the moment, nice move by telecom though allowing the tracks to be downloaded to computer, Laughing

Filterer, the update is to provide an enhancement to the JVM which is required to allow the Telecom Musis Store to run it's newer features... I'd recommend getting it (even though it's a hassle) even if you don't plan to use the TMS...

Thanks for that felix i guess not everyone would understand if they sent out a text saying that ut jvm needs updating but for the geeks amoung us I would have prefered an actual explantion rather then just saying phone needs updating for the music store

Just run a filter, for things like "Did you see nokias put out a new CDMA".

I've been soo looking forward to buying a one of these phones. Been ringing up the dealer every day to see if theyve arrived back from telecom yet. But alas, of course, no luck.

I have to questions:

Anyone know how telecom's got on with the upgrades, how long is it going to take?

and is it safe to buy one without the upgrade? or is it likely after I buy one, that I'd have to send it away to telecom?

Cheers.

(Btw Filterer ty for the PM, I'll let you know when I actually get one Cool_
