After playing with some CLI settings to try to use PPTP relay mode (gave up) and doing a factory reset, I now can't get into the TG585 v7 System Configuration web page. It now says "you cannot directly edit the service settings of your Thomson Gateway. Please log in as a user that has the necessary privileges and run the Configuration Wizard". Of course I am logged in as Administrator (even tried creating a new user with Admin privileges) and there is no configuration wizard. I can access all the other configuration pages, just not the Thomson gateway/Configuration page.

Fortunately I have a backup of the user.ini settings, so I can restore a working config with my DSL username and password, but restoring it doesn't unlock the configuration page. Have also tried a hardware reset, and a "system reset" from the CLI but no difference.

I did a text diff comparing the user.ini from the backup and the user.ini now, and the only significant difference is in the mysterious encrypted "koa.ini" and "koi.ini" sections.

I am probably going to chuck this stupid router anyway, but if anyone knows how to unlock the configuration page please let me know. Alternatively is there some standard firmware that is safe to flash into these routers?

Never mind, binned the router and have a shiny new TP-Link in half-bridge mode. :-)
