Do we need to call up to set up roaming? I couldn't find anything on the site about it other than the pricing (which is very competitive - can't wait for data), so assumed it was good to go...

Roaming call and text are good to go at destinations and pricing as per the website - no need to call.

It's not competitive if you want to go to the Cook Islands @ $1 / text.. The calling costs are about that of Telecom but dearer than Vodafone..

Thanks! I remember last year I had assumed the same thing only to find out that it wasn't the case. This time I am opting for caution.

Yeah, I was really only looking at the roaming pricing for the US, which costs slightly less than Telecom or Vodafone, and only slightly less than 2Degrees (or about the same if you factor in cost to receive calls).

maybe this needs fixing.

My next monthly $ plan rolled over yesterday leaving me a balance of $1.80. On 2D and XT if you cancel the plan it remains until the next rollover and then reverts to casual rates. However on Skinny it killed the plan instantly leaving me with $1.80 on casual rates. I topped it up again and applied the plan. This time I have the old plan and new plan lumped together. 80 minutes calling 196 SMS and about 17 meg data.

I think it needs to only kill off the plan on the roll over date. Saying that if your on WiFi it's good value and the only thing that's stopping me from porting my number across is the lack of MMS..

I'm sure you meant weekly $ plan

If you cancel the plan the quota remains until the original renewal date of that plan. That is used first and if you go over that quota you will be on casual rates (as opposed to overage rates which apply if you remain on a plan).

All you need to do is keep the balance over $4 and the plan will renew automatically - there is no need to cancel and reapply the plan. If you have registered a credit card then easiest way to do this is to setup an auto top-up at amounts that you specify.

MMS is on the roadmap but I don't have a date for it yet sorry.

When you setup a plan you are credited with the relevant quota. If you cancel the plan, it would be a bit mean of us to take that away again as you have already paid for it, so whatever is unused remains on your account until the expiry date. The plan is cancelled straight away though, which means it will not renew and if you use all your quota you will be on standard rates and not overage rates (which are the same for voice and text but different for data where people on a plan get a cheaper rate).

One clarification for a friend of mine who's contract with XT runs out soon.

For $16 / month she would get 160 min, 400 sms and 40 meg data . For a further $16 / month she could get a data ad on of 480 Meg.

That as I understand it is a total of 520Meg of data / month ??

A total of $32 which would be way better than she is paying now. Not sure if she does MMS or not..

Yes that is correct on our Loose Lips plan. On Busy Fingers it would be 40 minutes, 3000 sms and 40 MB data.

The 480 MB is on top of the plan so it comes to 520 MB.

We are planning to launch MMS in the hopefully not tooooo distant future
