networkn: Also any chance it could be moved where the reply # and date is? Or Below where the Compose Reply is? It's distracting where it is?

Distracting or really does what it's supposed to and draw attention to a post with lots of support?

My view is it is distracting, because your (well, my!) attention gets drawn directly to it, regardless of whether the post has any additional support. Even with no votes, the eyes go straight to it.

I'm not knocking the concept (I think it's a good idea), just not keen on the page placement.

freitasm: Ok... Behind the scenes it took me about three hours coding and testing this. A new table in the database, one new filtered unique index, three new stored procedures and all the checks basically re-use the same functions the main forum script uses so that saved a lot of development and test time.

I know there are a couple of more things to do, but we're in code fast, release fast mode today (and I have to leave the house soon, so rather have something out of the door today than next Monday).

Nice work. And bravo for having the... umm.... intestinal fortitude to deploy a new feature to production on a Friday :-)

Train your eyes... Really other day I was on IRC and someone posted "I heard there's a 'secret' function on Geekzone where you can get emails sent if someone you 'stalk' posts. Where is this?"

Well, look it's a green [STALK] button under the user name/avatar.

People miss things around here, have no interest in finding new features and when something pops in front of them... I get complaints.

Let's see how this one works.

It didn't involve resetting passwords or changing existing tables...

Also someone commented about perhaps creating a series of badges for people with lots of "concurs".

I will do it later, but not sure it wouldn't get people asking friends to click the buttons just so they can go up the ladder...

There are threads on XDA which are just giant circle-jerks for thanks. I'm quite happy with the current implementation. It's a nice way of saying thanks or expressing appreciation for a post without spamming a thread.

Sure, but any change to existing code can run the risk (no matter how small) of breaking existing functionality. And Murphy's Law states that this probability is increased if you deploy before a weekend, and even more so if deployed before going on leave.

Sorry if this has been mentioned somewhere but how about a button where we can view the top posts with the most votes in a thread? Similar to the Answers button.

Maybe I misunderstood the intended purpose of this feature, but for my own use I like to be able to express the sentiment of "I appreciate you taking the time to share that perspective or information".

And the thing is that I have just as much appreciation for opinions which differ from my own, because they often make me think more deeply about a subject or examine it from another perspective and I derive a lot of my learning from that process, so it's not always accurate to say that "I concur" (I agree, or I like)

Agreement is irrelevant to me, really. My valuing is that somebody contributed to the forum in some original way which enriched the community as a whole, as oposed to running with the sheeple or enciting the fan boyz. A simple "nod" would do it for me.

+1 for your time spent Mauricio :o)

How about putting the "+1" button up bside the email/profile/quote buttons and making it blend in. It's a bit of an eyesore.

maybe doing staged post background colour as well depending on votes. just something subtle and not overly distracting.

so posts with lots of votes are easier to see.

networkn: Should it be concurs?

Yes, for one person. Will fix soon.

networkn: Also any chance it could be moved where the reply # and date is? Or Below where the Compose Reply is? It's distracting where it is?

Distracting or really does what it's supposed to and draw attention to a post with lots of support?

networkn: Can we turn it off if that isn't possible?

This is a first release. On/Off will come later.

Turning it off means you won't know if someone get's support from the other users. Your loss.

Well If it could be integrated elsewhere then I am happy to keep it, but honestly, from my perspective it's too distracting.

freitasm: Because I can see some poor guy being ganged up by people with torches and pitchforks after posting a stupid comment, then complaining that there's been bullying and go running crying to someone higher up.

Remember, this is anonymous (for the public, not for us) and people can be nasty when they think they are anonymous.

Hi,

The worst that happens is that they get voted down. The rules for posting don't change so no-one can really be that "nasty" anyway right? It's against the FUG. The worst I could see if someone who posts something really annoying and their post gets -100 votes. It's no different than when you went to school and behaved badly and your friends called you out on it.

No offense but I think you are over estimating the value of a geekzone badge :)

It's not like getting a badge gets you a T-Shirt or anything :-)
