josephhinvest: Do the buttons on the left hand side need to be buttons at all? Could they just be linked text like the "Subscriber" link? They would take up much less vertical space.
There are three different styles of buttons on each post, looks somewhat irregular, I personally prefer the dark "quote" button style.

Cheers,
Joseph

Yup I prefer the darker buttons, and Yes I think links would be fine too.

When other people learn to use BBCode ;)

Sorry you have lost me. Surely url detection would make that unnecessary  I am talking about copying and pasting a url and having the edit box make it a link automatically. This negates the need for BBCode for this purpose.

I know wht you are talking about. I also know that people can't paste the video code from YouTube into the [youtube] tag, and many times people paste the URL instead. That would mess up things as the auto hyperlink is a TinyMCE function and BBCode is outside it.

Also people could paste a [url] tag and TinyMCE would try to hyperlink it automatically messing up with the URL in the final post.

Also note the automatic hyperlinks in TinyMCE work in some browsers, not in others.

At the end would have TinyMCE - BBCODE - Auto Hyperlink. Three parsers too many to my taste.

I know well what it is you want, and I know well where the pitfalls are. When I have this sussed out it will be done, because no one more than I do want automatic hyperlinks. I am tired of people posting things and being lazy by not hyperlinking things. People asked for BBCODE and when we have done it, people didn't use.

networkn: I'd really like the Quote button back on first post. Don't allow it until the first reply because it's obvious the first reply is in relation to the first post, but a few posts on, a point of reference is useful.

The {QUOTE} button is now back if the topic has more than one reply already.

heavenlywild: I know I've brought it up before but at the moment I can only see two posts on my screen before needing to scroll. I wish the gap between each post is a lot narrower so it's easier to read and compare. It's the "Set Answer", "Stalk User", "Report" etc buttons making each post very long.

The {Set Answer} button is now an image and has been moved to the post instead of user. The other buttons will be moved later today to other locations - possibly following michaelmurphy's suggestion.

Thanks for the explanation, it's a little outside of my understanding but it's excellent you are still trying to find a way around the problem, it's my most missed feature.

Behodar: I also like the "rounded" style suggested on the previous page (although I'd use darker colours).

itxtme:

Same here. The current buttons look out of place in terms of colour and the "3D" look. Perhaps style them like the quote / like buttons less the icon?

michaelmurfy: This is just an idea to make better use of the space available on screen, for me fitting more on screen is a bonus, the large icons down the side just really bug my OCD.

That looks strange to me. Moving them to under the post body (possibly at the bottom of the right forumbox, otherwise under the signature) would have a less unbalanced look to it.

freitasm: When other people learn to use BBCode ;)

On the topic of BBCode, is there a equivalent to the code tag other forum software has (and I'd swear Geekzone used to have)?

Posting traceroutes or other console output is a mess when formatted like the rest of the post.

  9    43 ms    36 ms    36 ms  202.175.128.169

EDIT: Or not... although it's not as nice to look at as if it was monospaced, it did kept the spaces - which I don't remember happening last time I posted one.

following michaelmurphy's suggestion here is the buttons on the avatar box, in dev:

This allow for "shorter" boxes.

THIS IS NOT THE FINAL STYLING/COLOURS. IT'S JUST SHOWING THE POSITION.

As for code, yes there is

The problem I found is the regex doesn't like embedded [ and ] as you have in yours. I will put this in the list of things to look at soon.

I know you're still working on it but make the buttons slightly smaller, or theme them to the buttons above the post :) glad you liked my idea!

Yeah, I've noticed that some veteran posters with hundreds or even thousands of posts rarely make their links clickable.

Any chance of banning a few of them to make an example? Tongue Out

The colours remind me of i think it was windows 98 set to a golden/yellow colour theme. Can't find a screenshot but you could always keep it and embrace the retro look :p

I posted this image the other day for MF to look at. Still think it's the cleanest way of doing things and it makes use of all the extra white space you get in the post area.

FWIW. The +1 button doesn't sit properly in the line space on my Galaxy Tab. Bottom of the button is below the line and sits in the text window.

It appears this just relates to this browser, but thought you might like to know.

(Edit: Correct auto spell error)
