Note: This is different to the green links caused by plugins discussed on the 2nd reply on this topic.

Blue advertising links appear when I'm not logged in. Example here where 'see thru top' in first post is hyperlinked. Log out to see it.

Is this intentional use or a side effect of something else added to Geekzone recently?

It's intentional, and we have been using these for almost a year now.

There are two types of links:

 

  • Linksmart: not and advertising but an automatic link from keywords to pages of interest. For example you will find freitasm will link to my blog, and coffeebaron will link to his profile.
  • Viglink: this is shown to visitors that aren't logged in and will link keywords to affiliate links.

Viglink has been used for almost a year now, and Linksmart for about six months.
