So i use Ghostery (ad yes i unblock all ads for geekzone) but i have notice that i cant comment on some blogs that are shown on here and it comes down to Disqus. Before unblocking it i decided to look at what Disqus was and after reading about them i am wondering WHY Geekzone is using such a system. From Wiki

As with other embedded web widgets, such as like buttons, the Disqus widget acts as a Web bug which tracks a user's activities, even when they are not logged in, across different sites that use the Disqus commenting system. Information tracked by Disqus, which may be disclosed to third parties, includes pseudonymous analytics data, such as a user's IP address, their web browser version and installed add-ons, and their referring pages and exit links. Although these data are referred to by Disqus as "Non-Personally Identifiable Information", such data, when aggregated, has been shown to be usable for de-anonymizing users.

Im not turning this feature on and its a shame as i wish to comment on some of the reviews that are on here, and question Geekzone for enabling such a feature. Privacy doesn't seem to be a issue for Geekzone imho.

Either that or we risk being overrun by spam. It is easy to manage.

The description above fits any non-anonymous platform. Even you registered here on Geekzone and posting in our forums can be tracked. And you know it.

Yeah I don't participate in the GZ blogs because of my dislike of disqus either.

Mauricio just rip it out, and link it back to the forum authentication system :-) How hard could it be *innocent whistle*

Information wants to be free. The Net interprets censorship as damage and routes around it.

It was before.

I dislike the assertion that we don't value privacy. The only real alternative would be no comments at all.

gpforums have an interesting system where every article on their site essentially creates a thread in their discussion forums, and then people can comment on the article in a normal forum thread, and they also show up below the article.

No, we are not. But with the little information we have I could find someone. But yes, not to the extent you mention.

This i expect. Tried to edit OP (remove the privacy statement i said, please remove if possible), my only concern is with a service like Disqus, there is no option to commend on reviews and blogs on this site without opening up to this service.

Comment spam is a massive problem, any system that does not have some sort of comment spam system will very quickly get over run with hundreds or thousands of comments per week or month.  It turns into a nightmare to manage.  So it makes sense not to enable anonymous comments.

Disqus is fine by me.

I must say, from a user perspective it is very weird to suddenly have all this security around comments on the blog section articles, when you can post essentially freely in the forum.
Given it's all the same site, surely having you logged in should enable you to comment, - conceptually just as if the comments were another forum thread.

Then again, from a user perspective you'd expect a button to insert the appropriate youtube BBC by now also, like there is for pictures and links...

Weird? Sure... But then again second guessing without knowing exactly why/how...

I would like to be able to comment to the blogg posts on the geekzone front page without using disqus too.

No issue with using my geekzone login, but wont create a separate account (Disqus)to do this.

A.
