If a feature was being added I sincerely hope better quoting (ala Head-Fi) is higher priority than Polls. If you want polls, I suggest Poland :)

It would be nice to see a list of all feature requests and their priority.  I can think of much better ways to spend time on improving GZ (in my opinion of course).

You can think of better ways than improving quoting? Or Polls? Quoting is used in almost every post.

Head-Fi has this awesome quoting system where by default it quotes only the last block of text, and you can click multi-quote and it does easily allow you to select other blocks too.

Sorry, I was referring to the original post about implementing polls.  I don't seem to have many issues with quoting but accept that others do and see this as a piece or core functionality for a forum.

Finch: We should have a poll to decide if we should have polls.

We do - it's the two @tardtasticx posts where you can +1 for polls or no polls.

Please don't add polls.

They don't add anything of value.

You don't learn anything from a poll. Often a poll will be missing option(s) that a user would otherwise have chosen.

People usually don't care if you're a, b or c.  They want to know why you're a, b or c.

Fair point. But look at the other side of the coin. Sometimes I see a thread and want to add something into the conversation, but sometimes I just cant be bothered. Im guessing im not alone here?

You wouldn't have to put a poll on every thread, guess it would be up to the OP. You wouldn't have to vote on them either.

If that's your response, then "lack of a polls option" isn't the issue here.

You don't need a poll for that, just click +1 on a comment you agree with. Someone else can do the hard physical work of typing a response, and you can piggyback on it. Then if there's not an option you agree with to +1, you can add your own - that makes it better than a poll where the options are fixed to whatever the pollster went with.

Apologies - I didn't get that. Maybe we should have a vote on it?

Correct IMO - so why not add a simple ' -1 ' option to enable people to show disapproval of a post. Rather than going down a whole poll route.

A -1 was discussed many times before and it would add an unnecessary mechanism on which people could simply gang up on anyone. +1 on the other hand shows support and/or appreciation to one's ideas.

Tried embedding a poll - it was an epic fail since I am not the BDFL or (potentially) a mod.

I agree. Inter webs are anonymous to a degree and that promotes keyboard cowboys. Not the I feel that happens here. But a +1 is a glass half full approach which I feel is helpful on a forum. Keep it positive.
