Hi,

One of my geeky interests is 3d printing (and DIY CNCs), a NZ based / focused forum would be nice to have?

If we had a separate sub-forum for every "geeky interest", you'd never find your way around! wink

Surely the gadgets sub-forum would do the job nicely?

It is kinda chicken-egg. I'd like a 3D-printer forum, but there just doesn't seem to be any demand. OTOH, I didn't know that @gzcwnk (or anyone else here) was into 3D printing.

In case anyone cares, I have a couple of printers (Delta and PrintrBot Simple Makers), and go through a few reels of PLA each year. A reasonable proportion of that goes straight from the printer to the bin, a (not unexpected) consequence of buying the cheapest Delta I could find. OTOH, I have quite a few cool odds and ends I couldn't have got any other way. And made one or two useful items.

I also dabble a bit with designing objects to print.

See, interesting you say that, because my instinct would have been the DIY forum.

If there is anyone in Wellington (southern suburbs ideally) with a 3D printer, I have a very small job that I would like to commission (when I have something more substantial, I hope to be able to convince Mrs MDF to let me buy one). Happy to pay for materials + beer money.

A 2.4 x 1.2 m (full ply sheets) home built CNC router is on my bucket list.

I actually bought a Wanhao D6 3d printer in order to make the CNC, and it seems to be re-producing a D-bot all by itself in the meantime, LOL.

I guess it depends on what you're doing with it! ;-)
