Not that there isn't already plenty of text on the front page, but I'd like to see forum names in the sidebar. And the date/times could be simplified.

For instance, rather than:

Idle questions
9-MAY-2008 15:19
by Rikkitic...

it would be nice to see something like:

Home Theatre
Idle questions
20 mins ago by Rikkitic

And why is the search box more than one screen-full down the page?

Certainly GZ needs a better look and layout than what it is now, but the current one does not stop me from using GZ or it is not hard to use that I need to complain Tongue out

The second design proposed looks great, and yes, its going to be really hard for only Mauricio to work on this. I think given some time Mauricio has good ideas (openId...hmmm) Laughing

With the sudden rise of social networking sites, it would be really nice if we could integrate something like that to GZ or just add "services" like Twitter/Facebook/FriendFeed - that would also be great idea..and it would be nice to follow Geekzone too Wink

And one other thing I have noticed is - We do have lot of events coming up which are either directly related to GZ or some company events or some social events, it would be nice to have a Calender (integrating google calender??) where those events are listed and one small button - Register - which would email the owner of that event if that particular user wants to attend Laughing

We have a calendar module, just not deployed. I will look into this later.

Wasn't someone looking at trying to get Windows Live Writer working with the blogs?

I quite like the second design, though the blue can be toned down a little. If you have a huge space with dark colours, it really contrasts with the white too much. Makes it easier on the eyes.

CSS is surging ahead, and it's flexible - especially with the upcoming CSS3. Some browsers like Safari and Firefox support some of these and I'm already using them in my blog (like round corners)

Ideas from me:
  • live AJAX forum post sidebar - RSS doesn't always have the latest.
  • collapsable sections on the home page (possibly going to posts?) - I've got a small widescreen monitor and scrolling gets annoying... even if around 20 posts are on one page
  • use of a different (but not too contrasting) colour to indicate status rather than the "NEW!" image - makes it stand out, easier to track down
  • an updated text editor - I would like to have the newest TinyMCE image dialog. I can put styles and edit far more than the current dialog

If people have issue with scrolling why can't the ads column currently on the left be moved to the right hand side.

Same with the latest posts section on the home page.

I bet the scrolling complaints would drop dramatically.

As for the proposals- I like both of them. Just make sure you can navigate with ease and keep loading times short. Not everyone has an ADSL 2+ cabinet outside the front door.

Oh and as I go to hit post reply. It would be good to have this button at both the top and bottom of the compose reply page to save scrolling all the time. (only takes a second but I have the saem issue with a web based document system at work and it annoys me!!)

freitasm: perhaps this time in some Pacific Island resort?

Both the North and South Islands are Pacific Islands, if ya budget tight.

Would like to see a change to the gray/blue colours,  the screen shots looked nice,  bright...

I have mentioned it before but much more use of ALTernative text on links to help the blind and to invisible put more infomation for a user to see if they want.

I also like the ads column currently on the left be moved to the right hand side. That would stop most forum pages floating off the sides of my 15" 1024 wide browser window.

I would put a list of stuff I like, but there's way more than Three things on that list.

Or there should be a fluid layout which has a lower minimum width.

One another feature I would like to see is to add users to my blog wherein those users when added to the blog can also post with their account Smile

Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their xDSL broadband network faster and even more now as they are upgrading their rural Conklins. If your still stuck on ADSL or VDSL, why not spend $195 on a master filter install to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection?
I install - Naked DSL, DSL Master Splitters, VoIP, data cabling and general computer support for home and small business.
