If you listen to their weekly podcast, you'll of course know that there's a hell of a lot of work and thought gone on behind the scenes of their reputation 'ecosystem'. But yes, it certainly works well for them.


I do get their podcast and find it good value.  Yeah, that have some really nice complexities going on.  It makes for an interesting benchmark.

It's about "trust". Helping users all around, following the FUG helps build the "trust", but a lot of this means we know the user a bit better than others and can back the poster on his/her opinion or advice (even if we don't agree with it).

For example is much easier for someone we met face to face before to get a "trusted" status than someone new on the site (unless it is someone we already know from somewhere else).
