i have found that on several occaisions i lose posts when I hit the submit button.  This was happening on IE7, IE8 beta on vista, and now on IE8 in Win7 too.  For some reason an error occurs and then when you hit the back button on the browser all the text you entered is gone.  It seems that the more time you spend creating a reply, the higher the chance of something going wrong and you losing all the text you just tried to enter.....

is there an option that can be set so that the whole page is not reloaded from the server when you hit the back button?  if so then it would at least mean that the text entered was still there when having to go back after an error occurs..

This has happen to me so many times, that I now make a point of saving my reply to a txt file just to be sure or I'll post quickly and then spend time tidying up the post at my leisure. I agree too, the chances of it happening increases the longer you spend replying. Its happened to me in IE6 and Firefox3.5 also.

Actually (and without offending anyone), out of all the forums I frequent, this one has to be the most user unfriendly I use. Just as well the content makes the effort worthwhile persisting.

For me, I get no notable error. It just looks like I've hit the refresh button and the thread is re-displayed without my post.

Happens to me too.  I have automatic login set.  To aviod losing my reply, I often copy my text onto clipboard.

Has anyone tried pressing Ctrl-Z (undo)
when returned to the form page?

I get it on occasion also, and I have auto logon.

Odd.
Personally I've never had it happen to me. And I'm so used to the world of warcraft forums losing my long posts that anything that's taken me over 2 mins to type is first typed in a google docs or text document.

i do have auto login enabled.  i cant remember the exact error - something comes up in red text saying something like "response must be greater than 0 bytes" or some such thing.  next time i'll make a note/screenshot it.

it used to happen before all the changes and upgrades on the site - its not new.  just that i spent ages typing up a detaile reply about migrating exchange servers only to lose all the stuff i typed in and being so late (or early at 4am) i wasnt about to start over....  i also saw a post elsewhere very recently mentioning the second replay was abridged as the first was lost.

my suspicion is that its probably something to do with the way the ad's are loading - that was certainly the problem that occurred with lots of 'operation aborted' errors and the IE7 browser (and one of the reasons for upgrading to IE8 betas)

Once, by mistake I restarted the computer half way in writing a post and it still showed up. So no problems for me there.

Freitasm do you have some screenshots of some error screens and then we might be able to remember what they looked like?
