The email notifications are ok. I just decided not to add "dev.geekzone.co.nz" in front of it. They will work fine when the site is moved to production.

there is a lot of scrolling before you get to see the "discussions" list (when the friends list is shown). i wonder if a 4 column layout that brings discussions back to the top again might be worthwhile? (seeing that the discussions are a large part of the value of the site to visitors)

I can't stop thinking this banner area is a huge waste of space when you're a subscriber:

Overall looking good, just needing a few tweaks.

How about adding a very thin and almost invisible line between the columns? Without text justification it just looks a little bit weird.

I had a quick poke around and really there was onnly one thing that stuck out for me:
- The front page has a lot of white space at the bottom, due the length of the stacked "Friends" and "Discussions" boxes on top of the "Latest Jobs" box.

Would it be possible to shorten the Discussions box and have a scroll bar on it - or would this just be patently ugly?

Also, perhaps the "Blogs" and "News" boxes could have a few more entries to push more of the white space away?

Lastly, maybe the "Latest Promotions" box could be formatted the same as the others, i.e. having a "posted" date etc, but be differentiated by a slight difference in the background shading?

I'm running 1920x1080 resolution and the site scaled perfectly to it.  It also transitioned between pages/areas impressively fast on IE8.

It has a nice clean look and feel - I like it!

damn it. just wrote a long post about how you sometimes spend time on writing a reply only to have it mysteriously 'go missing' or have an error pop up about illegal characters/bad language etc and finding that you lose your post when you try to go back. i'd really like to see this 'fixed' in a redesign - i assume there is some onload javascript re-initializing the textbox/editor when the back link or back key is pressed.

I'd love the message notifications to do what facebook does and include the message (or part thereof) which the notification is about, so you know at a glance if you should bother going to the website to read it all and/or reply.

Also, this maybe because I'm a stupid numbty, but I cannot see on the existing forums next to someones name if they are your friend or not. I'm sure it used to say friend next to their status by their subscribers/truster/moderator/supreme bean etc.

From the first page:
Aloha: I like that the whole design sits on black background as it is "eco-friendly" (need less energy to display) :)

Random fact of the day: The darker the background, the more energy is required to display as it works to "block" the white backlight :P

Also, I from the screenshot I have seen, the design is a radical improvement on the current design - nice work : )

I know it's too late to submit ideas but I'll just say a couple ideas anyway:

  • Maybe a faint gradient background behind the "Welcome guest" and "You haven't logged in" area.

  • Maybe an equal padding at the bottom of the top-most ad so it's the same as the top?

Guys, if you haven't noticed... It's now on the live site.

It's only the frontpage and the theme for all pages - the container for each page is not changed though. It means you still see the old forum colours in discussions, listings, etc, surrounded by the new theme.

The reason for that is so that we can tweak the theme then replicate it later.

Feedback welcome. Be nice. Please check the frontpage, follow all links (yay for page counts) and let us know what you think.

Again - this is for the theme, not features!

Looking good. The initial 'what the' uttered on refresh when presented with the new front page was followed quickly by a 'wow, pretty cool'.

Well done

Why Has My profile image unresized in the bar at the top?
Could be a issue. Could not.

Being looked at the moment. The image is optmized automatically - but only if size is determined on HTML. Since this is sized on CSS it has a conflict. I've asked Phil to look at it.
