Sorry, we can't. We have a booking and a budget. Sponsorship is already paid, the booking is confirmed and we think that more than 60 people makes the event too big to be meaningful...

You are already in the waiting list, I am sure when it comes closer to the Auckland event we will see some people coming in. We had five changes for Wellington.

An obvious question - that I have been waiting for someone else to ask - how do you know who is who when they turn up?
Are you sending out a special password?

I just figured out you'd just ask for proof of ID - as you know our real names - DOH!
Oh well don't have to post this then ....

Haha Evolbob i asked the same question of Freitasm just over a day ago via email as being a first timer at theses events wasn't sure myself. No Id or anything is needed (unless you need it for drinks hehe which i doubt will be the case). Turn up enjoy meet some people and have a great night. (well at least that's my plan anyway hehe)

Yeah, last year was mostly an honesty policy.

There are name tags for everyone though, so it'll be pretty obvious if you don't have one, or have stolen someone else's! ;)

forgot to add was advised no name tag no chance of prizes so basically if someone did the dodgy and took your mane tag your outta luck but ultimately would like to think this would not happen. A way around this is to just turn up early hehe.

I think enough of us know enough of us that any impostering attempts will fail.

10 points if anyone manages to convince anyone they are Mauricio however ;)

Mauricio is so far my only friend on Geekzone so you can keep those points I need friends in high places hehe. Really looking forward to meeting some new friends on Saturday though.
:-)
Also am quite surprised how many of us are up so late (or early if you wanna look at it that way I am watching UFC 109 at the moment just seen a very nice choke out poor guy was put very much to sleep).

My apologies if this has been covered already, but will we have WiFi?
(I might have something interesting to show folks if we do, otherwise I might um, bring a screen shot instead)

I usually bring a 3g WiFi router, so we should have some coverage.

I thought I had posted this but perhaps I did and the mods removed it :-(  If so then sorry.

There is cafenet at the corner of Blair and Wakefield and it looks like it would cover One Red Dog so if you have a cafenet account, that's another way to get wifi there. Should be faster than 3G I think.

From reading their site it's $20 for 70MB or $10/24 hours. Not reading all their T&C's I guess somebody could buy the 24 hour pass and hook up their laptop to it and then connect a wireless router on that to share with their friends! Good for email and stuff but no BT!

Disclaimer - I don't work for cafenet but have an account for years (bought 350MB a while ago) and it's still got 200MB in it - handy for when I need wifi around town (Wellington)
