Thats not true, as a moderator/admin we can all see who is watching a thread. YOU would not be able to see who else is watching it though.

To be fair, Mauricio actually stated in his original post "reply here to receive email notifications when we update the post with more information.", not "click 'watch this topic' to get more information". So you can understand why people are actually posting. Does it really matter? :)
