I am about ready to get my first PDA.
I am a computer technician and need to store all manner of information about my clients.
Info like IP addresses (including DHCP settings, DNS, subnets etc), passwords, VPN settings, computer names, shares, groups and members along with access permissions. Computer specs (RAM, HDD size and free space, CPU). Network specs (switch, ports in use, speeds, routers).
I want to note down work done, on the PDA, whilst onsite and also to recall work done previously for those tidbits of information I file away in a 'safe place'.
I need to migrate over from my 'Diary' based system where I write everything down by hand, move into an electronic version where I can search or sort information on various categories. Most likely by client or subject.
I will also use the appointment side of things and the email data side whilst on the road.
These are the main things I want to use the device for and whilst a notebook will do all of this, I want something smaller and I am after recommendations and ideas on what sort of PDA and accessories will help me, what software I might need to purchase to assist me. I see that Pocket Access has been removed from Mobile 5 which was what I thought I would use for the databasing side of things so that area needs to be recovered somehow.
I have had my eye on the Jasjar unit as one that will do pretty much everything I would reasonably expect a PDA to do.
I am open to ideas and suggestions and other peoples experiences (good and bad) with whatever is out there.
