Talking about Google news here, not Google search.

Heres one that appeared after 30 mins (and doesnt appear in google search yet)
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/tonyhughes/148
(I searched for "courierconnect site:.nz")

I have checked several others from other members, and found some appear and some dont.
Do they get scored on any kind of relevancy? Excluded for any reasons?

I also find it odd that the news results dont appear in a normal search at the same time - this knowledge will change my search habits bigtime.

Cool - I am famous. You know you have hit the big time when your blog appears on Google News. That is like going into syndication.

Some of my posts have made it there. Even though I wouldn't really consider them news.

Google News only lists selected sites, and Geekzone is one of them. They grab a few of our RSS feeds and in general posts (not forums) will be on the index in about 10 minutes - yes we do get lots of traffic from news.google.com.

It was a surprise to find out about Google News indexing the Geekzone Blog, but it was a good surprise.

It just makes even clearer that you guys have to be more attentive to what you write and how - your audience is literally the world now.

And for the record the news bot is not the same as the googlebot or the adsense bot. They have different schedules and don't seem to exchange information between them.

And some scrapper sites are already using the content (thankfully only the Google headlines):

http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=us&q=Orcon+changes+ADSL+plans&btnG=Search+News

http://dsl-internet.find-more.info/2006/03/19/566/

At least these keep the links, not using the full content. That's one reason why I gave the option of having partial RSS feeds: less chance of scrappers using the content on their sites. I recommend using that option.

mmmm thats why I like Geekzone... all original content.
Very good quality site.

(maybe thats why Google likes it)

Can we get a choice in our profile to use the old message editor. I suddenly feel like i have moved from BlueWave on a BBS to Incredimail or something LOL.

Long live plain text.

You certainly can. There's a new checkbox in your profile page that will disable the new editor if you don't like it - I enjoy it lots though. The option will also disable the editor on the Geekzone Blog entry page.

For example, did you realise that if you copy and paste a URL it will automatically enter as a hotlink?

Yes, automatic hotlinking was great until I wrote the courierconnect post... I didnt want to hyperlink those URLs...
