Yesterday I made a comment on one of Juha's blog posts, received the email notification clicked through to cofirm and the comment is showing as normal - all good.

Today trying to make a comment on one of the supreme bean's blog posts I'm getting the validation error message:

I do use a number of addons that mess with the page (no script, ad block) depending on which browser I'm using and where (work/home).

For example that stupid animated android ad from Telecom, sorry that is staying blocked as ANNOYING.

So yes the captcha was getting partially blocked /smacks-head

Good times.

I'd get a subscription if it offered something a little more compelling to me (don't need a gz blog, or image hosting space etc)

Currently I value the extra coffee a month more.

I'm not going to unblock that stupid animated ad either.

Here is where we usually agree to disagree Tongue out

Been there done that as part of trying to get a job fresh out of Wintec (only 1 day a week and I got the job)

Personally the ads on this site are no where near as anonying as the ones on say stuff.co.nz.  At least the ones here don't expand all over the bloody page if your mouse happens to hit them.
You then have to spend time to focus on the ad to find the damn close button!!! Pain In the ar$e!!!

I usually run No-Script rather than ad block.
Ads don't worry me, it is the scripts that can be hidden in some sites that do!

I find it hard to beleive that an ad on the side of the screen is so annoying you have to run a program to stop it from being shown.  Can't you look past it to the information that is on the rest of the screen??

Well I didn't get paid to make the 4312 posts I've made on GZ for example.

Soon someone's going to post that ars technica article about ad blockers killing forums then I'm going to post that tech dirt article about better alternative business models

I did not intend a low blow.

You already know from previous threads that I believe that:

1: The current subscription model doesn't offer compelling value
2: That the when you publish your content publicly on the internet you have no practical control over how it's consumed.
3: The current advertising model is being disrupted by technology and that there are some interesting alternative models.
