quickymart: What happened to NonPrayingMantis?

He doesn't work for TelstraClear... Or are you asking about his inactive status?

Moving from TCL back to Chorus isn't difficult.

If you had a naked cable connection your copper should still be connected. If you had a phone connection with TCL you will need to hook the Chorus copper back to your internal wiring at the demarc point in your home, something that'll typically involve 2 scotch lok connectors and will probably take all of about 5 minutes.

Yes...I saw he was inactive but he's not now. That's what I was asking about, sorry.

Step 1) Phone up TC and ask about deal, ask if you can go on it.
Step 2) Tell TC you're disconnecting, ask them to disconnect your broadband.
Step 3) Once they ask if there's anything else they can do for you, sign up to the deal as a "New Customer" all whilst talking to the same CSR, since you're now a new customer they can't refuse the deal.
Step 4) ???
Step 5) Profit!

One of my cousans did this to get onto this deal, worked a treat.

Seems like a bit of a mission if existing customers who are out of contract are eligible anyway.

Just to confirm, does your cousin have this deal on an InHome setup?

I actually have no idea, they just refused to do anything for him so he went with the roundabout solution to solving it.

http://www.lightreading.com/document.asp?doc_id=226144&site=lr_cable&

10Gb HFC cable.

I guess we should start pushing for the faster speeds that DOCSIS3 can deliver before the current generation of gear is out dated.

Sucks so much to have the technology in the network and then not actually get to use it until it's almost on the end of its life.

DOCSIS2 was like that. Those modems will do 30 odd mbit's but we never got to actually use them past 15, half the possible performance.

Wonder if UFB is going to end up turning out that way as well.

UFB will do 1000/1000BIR, but when will we actually get to take advantage of that?

D

Just got a reply from Telstraclear.

The 500% more promo is only applicable on the Homeplan network. I'm on the In Home, Naked Broadband.

That no good. I am stuck on 60GB of data but not interested in upgrading to the 100mbit download and 10mbit upload warpspeed plan just to have 150GB of data. ($155.95 per month)

The homeplans give you 100GB Data + Phone + Free wireless modem + Free connection for $90/month, or 150GB data for $105per month.

kaczor47: Sigh. I called TCL to talk about the current plan I am on, compared to the competition. I was basically told to stop whining since I agreed to a contract. Big mistake to sign up to the 2 year TBox deal. Not only is the TBox acting up, now I am stuck with a lousy data cap until September 2013 (not prepared to overpay any more to bump up my cap). Honestly, I am very close to biting the bullet and terminating the contract. The amount of time I have wasted on the phone dealing with billing issues, performance issues etc is worth more than the termination fee.

Sorry, did you say it's playing up?  And that you're having performance issues?  This strikes me as being perfect ammunition to be able to have the contract terminated without penalty as they are failing to provide you with the contracted service.  Remember, in exchange for you paying the bill they're supposed to be delivering a service, and there's laws about how that service has to be of a reasonable standard.

It's a best effort basis - no one guarantees service. But at the very least he should be reporting the fault and giving them a chance to try and fix it.

Would you consider changing to a Homeplan set up? (assuming, your current/preferred situation can accommodate the infrastructural switch)

That's quite a good summary, but I'm quite confused.

Why are you still an Inhome HFC customer?  Why not just move to V/ADSL?

Our street is on cable. No copper. One of the reasons i was forced to leave my previous isp Snap when we moved into our new house.

I was far better off on naked adsl.
