freitasm: Just to clear up any problems with configurations, all of you are using the recommended DNS servers, correct?

Yes I am.

You Tube is crap on Telstra Clear cable (Central Wellington) Any time of the day.

But....

If I select and watch videos from www.reddit.com, that are You Tube Videos, there is no buffering/stalling at all...

ive noticed this over the past few days too... and I am on the 100 megabit warp speed plan!

one of a few niggles thats making me consider jumping back to Telecom (500 gigs download compared to 100 is also tempting). feel like i am paying for a premium service and not really getting anything better than i had on ADSL2 apart from the odd faster torrent...

I am experiencing the same problem with youtube videos loading very slowly recently. As mentioned above it does not seem to affect embedded youtube videos on facebook or other places. Just when watching videos directly on the youtube site. It's quite frustrating, I am in Berhampore and have noticed the same problem while visiting a friend in Aro Valley also on TC.

I'm on cable and I would agree with the majority of contributors, YouTube performance has gone downhill over the last few days.  Could this be the effect of the "major cable" fault on the Southern Cross cable reported by Claire Curran ??

Not at all. Whatever she's talking about doesn't have close the impact she's trying to make it appear.

I also have been experiencing problems with Youtube in Wellington. Sometime 720p videos load fine but 480p, my most common size, loads slowly.

I haven't changed anything in a long time, my router hasn't changed and I haven't touched the settings but the speed difference means i can't play many videos.

Still experiencing slowness issues with YouTube here.

Am on Christchurch cable...

14.58 / 2.14 to Vodafone's Auckland hosted speedtest server.

I feel like I've gone back in time to 1999 :-(

Even worse here today. It's taking 15 minutes to buffer a six minute video at 360p.

I've got mates on Facebook with Telstra also complaining about it today.

Does Telstra have anything to say on this matter?

signing up to telecom on monday. the straw that broke the camels back really - but has made me evaluate alternatives and telecoms offering is just more compelling...

Had to login and post myself to add to this.

Occasionally it'll stop mid stream and just do nothing, other time's it'll load with horrible speed.

Christchurch here, other national and international speeds are perfectly fine.

Agreed.  Can't really stand another period of months while TelstraClear sort this out.  With the impending take-over by Vodafone, I am sure no-one really gives a toss any more.  So sad.

Christchurch cable user here. I also have the same problems. I find that it is random videos, rather than all videos. I have been very tempted to change provider for a while now as there does seem to be better offerings out there but I've had a good run with Telstra and would prefer to keep with them..

I complained and was told "I do not know any estimated time for resolution at this stage" and was offered some different DNS settings... which haven't helped.

Thin ice Telstra, thin ice...
