Here is something I'm finding slightly annoying at the moment.
I'm watching recordings of the Roland Garros Tennis on Sky3. The default sound option appears to be labeled "English Alt" and is PCM. By pressing the Options button and can navigate to sound option "English" which is Dolby Digital.
Why is ENGLISH ALT the default, and not ENGLISH ?
Why would PCM be the default instead of (the presumably superior quality) Dolby Digital ?
There does not seem to be any permanent settings option to indicate I want DD as my default instead of PCM.
Setting Options while watching the recording only lasts that viewing. Exiting and returning restores the default option "English Alt" again :-(

There must have been a change in the source. This isnt normal. Dolby is always set as the main audio on tune. I've looked and this has now been corrected. Thanks for highlighting it. :)

Hey Grant,

Do you have something to do with T-box development?

That's good to hear.  I know things have got much better but I think you will agree there is still some improvements to be made.  Is there going to be any updates in the near future to deal with the minor niggles with picture freezes, lock up's and slow response that everyone still seems to be reporting on GZ from time to time?  There has not been an update now for some time... apart from the UI colours... which I'm still having trouble getting used to btw ;)

Cheers
Kirk.

Hi Kirk,

There is always improvements to be made in all products, the T-Box is no different.

We’re aware of issues surrounding crashes (No PIP in the guide/planner) and complete lockup resulting in a black screen.  These have taken some time to track down and fixes have now been made.  These of course require soak testing to make sure they’ve been nobbled.

Further speed improvements around channel changes, channel ‘surfing’ and EPG are planned in the near future.

Cheers,

Grant

Not quite as Gary has always been very active on this topic too but agree that it's nice to see someone's listening to the 'noise'

I am hoping we'll get an app like the Sky one as that was super useful when I had MySky

I wouldn't hold my breath.  The T-Box has had a static feature set since it was released nearly three years ago.  They have shown no real intention of ever implementing any new features.

Observations of TBOX performance.

In the recent past I have not been demanding a lot from the TBOX, with an average of two recording tasks per day and corresponding viewings of those recordings. The TBOX would require a boot every three to four weeks on average.

But with the start of the French Grand Slam Tennis and the introduction of the Jones! channel, I have been putting the TBOX to maximum use, with the Tennis recording for up to 10 hours per day, a daily additional Jones recording weekdays, and five more during weekends.
I've been viewing the tennis recordings, with plenty of fast forwards, pauses and stops, as I try to keep up with the tennis schedule.

Currently the TBOX requires a boot every four days!
The symptoms of the downgrade begin with the live view going black, with its sound coming and going in 4 second intervals.  Fortunately, recording tasks keep working, and playback of recordings also work OK during this period of instability.

The old problems of the banners and popups  taking longer and longer to vanish after long runs between boots has definitely been sorted.

Hi Garfield.

See my response to Kirk above. The ssue you have described is the same as Kirk's and the fix is currently under testing.

Cheers
Grant

There are times, when I think you guys should be paying US for beta testing the Tbox..

LOL. I must admit that the performance of the TBox has been pretty good lately. We still get the odd freezing problem but I think other problems are due to transmission. Having said that, I hope I haven't put the kiss of death on ours. Cheers.

It's getting better! It should have been this good 12 months ago though.
