When you receive your first phone call, the Time / Date will be set correctly in my experience.  There is a place to enter an NTP server, but it is locked down inside the config. set by WxC.

Various techniques are used to tunnel through your NAT, but the key ones appear to be:

1)  NAT Keep Alive
2)  STUN Server

However it's done, it works extremely well.

This was something that iTalk could never get sorted during the time I was with them.  Calls would not be received in many cases unless you had recently made or received a call.  It was all to do with this issue of NAT traversal and obviously there are things that have to be done correctly at the server end, as well as at your end with the SPA2102.

As soon as I switched to VFX, all my calls started arriving even though nothing had changed at my end (same hardware, same software).  These guys know their stuff Cool

gchiu: A couple of questions Embarassed

The web interface says the date is set to 1/1/2003.  Is this something I should bother fixing ( I don't see a way to set up a NTP server ) ?

And how do they tunnel thru my NAT to make the phone ring?

Yes you should worry if the time is not correct :), we like to have everything working correctly and the Time should be working correctly of our NTP time source

A couple of things on this, we supply the NTP server so it is kept locked down that is why you don't see, it does require DNS to be working through the Box though ntp.wxnz.net (not pingable),did you assign a static address to the SPA2102 or did you have DHCP on for the WAN connection ?, so if you could possisbly check that you have DNS working through the Box we can go from there, best bet is to plug a PC into the LAN connection and see if you can browse the web.

Second thing could be if you have a firewall / router solution it may be blocking the NTP Port (UDP Port 123)

How do we tunnel through the NAT......Like to say it's just Magic :), but we have done a lot of work with configurations and router setups so we could supply the best and easist setup for users enabling most people to have a pretty easy time of setting these devices up, NAT has been one the bigger issues for most people doing VOIP services but we are pretty happy with our setup for this, there will always the odd issue mind you but we are pretty hot on trying to resolve any issues for the customer as quickly as possible, which leads me to the point of your comments on having issues signing up...I will be following up with my teams to see why you had a less than memorable experince to see if we dropped the ball, we pride ourselves on supplying Great Products and Service so if you had a bad experience I will be looking at the process to see if it needs adjusting.

Ok.  Time was not set correctly on the home network (TC), or the work (TC) network.  DNS is enabled on my router, but I have the SPA assigned a static IP WAN address.  If I attach a PC to the lan address, and allow the SPA to assign a IP address, then I can browse the internet.

I just opened up port 123, and have it forwarded to the SPA.   I then powered cycled the SPA, but it still comes up 1/1/2003.  It was 1/2/2003 before I did this, so it keeps resetting to the bios default.

I'll PM you about the customer experience.

Can you just confirm that in the Static address allocation you have also added a DNS entry as well, should be the IP address of your router, you probably have since you seem to be able to browse the net from behind the device but just want to confirm please.

Yes, that is correct.  The gateway on the WAN setting is pointing to my router.

Okay, the only thing that I can say at this stage is that NTP is not being passed back through your network router to the SPA2102 for some reason most likely a firewall rule I would say, if perhaps you can run a couple more simple tests first if you can run from the cmd prompt "nslookup ntp.wxnz.net" and the second one is there is freeware NTP checker available from

http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?group_id=10109&use_mirror=optusnet&filename=NetTime-2b7.exe&84740459

if you install this on the machine on the LAN side of the 2102, you can set the Time server to be ntp.wxnz.net Protocol will be SNTP should show Port 123, then apply these settings , you can then see if the SNTP is working through your network

Both of these work when my laptop is connected to the lan side of the SPA2102.

So NTP is passing through my router okay.

Okay thanks for this, well the device should be correct for time so if it's not I'm picking a faulty box ..very strange , I will send you a PM with my EMail address could you EMail a screen shot of the page showing the incorrect time please.

I will possibly send you a replacement directly if I don't have an answer to the issue , just need to confirm a couple more things first

Okay I see the problem now with the Screen shot you sent, thanks for that. since you are using static IP addressing with the box you are missing  DNS entries , the Box itself will not know how to resolve ntp.wxnz.net so if you set the primary to be the IP address of your router I think this issue will be solved
