I've seen some strange connectivity problems too.

www.liquibase.org and flywaydb.org were both not responding, but they worked when I connected to the corporate VPN.

Definitely some strangeness going on.

Youtube issues drive me crazy.  There is no point in posting a link to the video because the issue doesn't reproduce.

It is definitely slow the first them when they don't have it cached and then speeds up on subsequent loads because of the cache.

The cache alleviates the problem for common videos, but doesn't treat the cause which is the uplink to youtube is crap and anything that hasn't been cached (not popular things) crawls due to the same issues we had before the cache was installed.

It really sucks if you are not watching the popular stuff as everything is slow.

Totally the issue. I frequently watch karate videos with little views, and they take forever. They load at 50-120KB/sec.

Youtube is no longer loading for me at all tonight, stuff.co.nz flakey.

Network status says the only issue is limited to international, but .co.nz very flakey too.

No ETR according to the network status either.

Ditto, for me, SpeedTest reporting 245ping and 2.45Mbs (on 100mbs and cable).

.co.nz does not mean the website is hosted in NZ

The issue with other sites (different from YouTube) may be related to this.

SpeedTest reporting 7s ping and 0.64Mbs downstream. Upload test error .. never completed. This is to speedtest.telstraclear.co.nz [christchurch]

( Also on 100mbs and cable).

ICMP seems to be ok. TCP is totally fubar. Issue marked as resolved on VF status page. It isn't.

Hi John,

Thanks for the response from VF.

Definitely ongoing problems here in Chch on Cable continuing today. e.g. Logging into Geekzone Acct problematic, Stuff would not load but NZ Herald does (different hosts and links) - VPN via Sydney would access ok. Quite a few sites not completing to load.

A Speedtest to Snap Chch shows with half speed upload speed at 1Mb and around 10Mb download, ping 1 to 7secs on a 15/2MB cable connection. Similiar to VF Auck server, with longer pings at 15 to 20 secs. Results bouncing around which is not normal for Docsis connection on cable when TCL routed. Uplink is really "laggy", downloads stalling/freezing up.

A few thoughts:

Wondering if the current VF4G rollout happening in Chch is associated, have VF shifted data centre here in Chch or changed data linking/routing paths for national traffic?

Youtube may be seperate or associated issue, it was a problem a few years back until NZ mirror server was installed at TCL after a lot of complaints. Looks like it is back, maybe international routing / carrier change issue? Have VF shifted off Telstra Reach for US traffic now?

Thanks

  • We were experiencing similar problems and have found the solution to our video streaming problems

  • Do a malware check using all 3 of these tools  ( adwcleaner, hitmanpro, malewarebytes), Turn off your modem (for at least 60 seconds) and then turn it back on every 5-6 weeks or whenever the performance starts to lag. http://www.remove-malware.info

  • Download a utility called google/namebench,   http://code.google.com/p/namebench/downloads/list  this will determine the performance of your DNS and give you a DNS configuration that is best for you location (we currently use the settings posted below) each user will experience different results.

  • (location wainuiomata, wellington)
 Primary DNS                      203.109.129.68

Secondary DNS                   202.180.64.9

Sorry, but those DNS are wrong for Vodafone TelstraClear network, and I don't think malware has anything to do with this specific case.
