I was in the erstwhile TCL shop in Courtenay Place today and noticed they were advertising a naked broadband plan for $75 for 200GB but double the data for the first 12 months. And you had to have an eligible mobile plan with VF else it was $105(?).

Since this is Wellington I wonder if it means both cable and DSL. The guy in the store was busy so I could not ask him and it's not clear from the web site.

If it's cable then it could be a good reason for me to come back from Telecom since I am underwhelmed with their VDSL performance.  If it's DSL then I won't bother of course since the speed will be the same - constrained by my distance from the cabinet.

- If you know your connection is to an exchange, cabinet or conklin

 


 

- If your connection is to a ULL or wholesale service

 


 

- If you have done an isolation test as per the link above

 



 

Most of the problems with speed are likely to be related to internal wiring issues. Read this discussion to find out more about this. Your ISP is not intentionally slowing you down today (unless you are on a managed plan). Also if this is the school holidays it's likely you will notice slower than usual speed due to more users online.

 



 

A master splitter is required for VDSL2 and in most cases will improve speeds on DSL connections. Regular disconnections can be a monitored alarm or a set top box trying to connect. If there's an alarm connected to your line even if you don't have an alarm contract it may still try to connect so it's worth checking.

All our plans (Choice Mega and Chocka) are for DSL and not Cable. The cable plans are separate.

+1 to that. If they were 300GB or so I would be back in a flash. I went from being a $250/month customer to $80 and if I can convince my son to ditch channel surfing I would go less and get an Igloo box.

I am in Wellington and I had cable service for 8 years and was on Warp speed 150GB. But I cancelled my account because the 150GB cap is way too small for me. That is why I noted in a earlier post I went from a $240/month customer to about $80 since I retained my phone and TV but that is probably going to change when I move to Freeview only.
