I have had an email delivery failure this morning, but I cannot comprehend the problem. I have sent to this contact successfully last week, and received a reply only yesterday.

Below is the Delivery notification text, with [sender] and [receiver] replacing actual email addresses to preserve anonymity :-)

Subject: Re: Re letter

Your message cannot be delivered to the following recipients:

Recipient address: [receiver]@vodafone.co.nz
Reason: Rejection greeting returned by server.
Diagnostic code: smtp;554-pub.filter4.content.vf.net.nz Y
Remote system: dns;zuul.ihug.co.nz (TCP|203.97.37.64|49612|203.109.135.49|25)

So what does a Rejection Greeting mean, and where is the problem at ?
Thanks.

I'd say your email has been rejected as spam.
Try modifying your email wording and sending again.

Nice try, but no banana :-(

Even a simple "This is a Test" returned the same error message.
Email to a clear.net address worked fine so I dont think it's my end.
Suspect Vodafone, or recipient's email settings?

Could be that their mailbox is full.
Have you tried sending from another email address that isn't a Paradise one?

Just sent the original email text via gmail. No rejection messages so far. Good call. Thanks.

looks like simply vodafone's mail server is refusing the message. I didn't think paradise.net.nz addresses were still valid, but oh well.

If you have one it still works.
Bit strange though that Vodafone are rejecting emails from their own servers since they now own what was Paradise / ClearNet / TelstraClear.

G'day Folks

Have a similar issue at the moment (and had for the last week or so) sending from one of my email address via my iPhone.

Error message reads "Cannot send Mail. A copy has been placed in your Outbox. The recipient xxx was rejected by the server"

Message sporadically tries to resend but continues to fail.

Message sends fine if I change the "From" to a different email address.

Cheers, Gobit

G'day Folks

My problem's been sorted.

I had smtp2.vodafone.net.nz set up as the primary SMTP server with smtp.vodafone.net.nz as a secondary.

Deleted smtp.vodafone.net.nz which John R advises is not a valid smtp server address.

Thanks n cheers, Gobit

It's been a week and I've not had a recurrence of this problem so I am going to assume a one-day glitch.
