sbowness: I've just asked for my DLM to be reset (although I've had to send an email to get it done because the Help Desk is "experiencing heavy volumes at the moment" - tell me something I haven't heard before). I initially got 37/10 but now only get 29/9.

During DLM, are there any issues with using VPNs while it is being run?

no, using a vpn wont affect it. sounds like the 37 MAY have been a little unstable, and DLM has pulled you back just a tad.

I had it consistently for 5 days. It was so nice.

johnr:
peejayw: Currently on ADSL with a second modem down the end of the house to increase WiFi coverage so I guess if I went to VDSL I would have to buy a second modem. What options are there?

Turn the second modem into a WiFi hotspot

Thanks John. The second modem is operating as a wireless hotspot I guess, connected to the main modem via ethernet and re-broadcasting at the far end of the house.
What I meant was, if I go to VDSL and have a VDSL modem installed, will I also need to upgrade the secondary modem, acting as a hotspot, to VDSL as well or will it still continue to work?
Thanks

Other modem aka wireless hotspot should continue to work as it's just a WiFi Hotspot not actually been used as a modem

I presently have an ADSL modem (VF) which is also a wireless router, creating a wireless network called 'Vodafone'.

Plugged into it by cable is an Apple Time Machine which is configured to create a second wireless network called 'Apple'. At the mid point of the house is an Apple Airport configured as a WAP to extend network "Apple".

It works fine and I can't see that replacing the ADSL modem with VDSL on Friday (thanks Tim!) will make any difference. Except, hopefully, speeding things up in general!

What is the best way to get a VDSL install started, via the web page or a phone call? I am a bit concerned about being able to understand the phone operator :-(

I understand that its a 2-step process, Vodafone switch me from my current ISP so I still have ADSL then send a tech to install VDSL and new modem, is this right?

Will the old (Orcon) modem still work when switched to Vodafone or will I have to get a temporary one until VDSL is installed?
Thanks.

Were any upgrades completed last night or new firmware pushed out to the HG659 routers?
Noticed this afternoon I'm able to almost max our connection now (over Wifi!) and ping times have dropped from from 25ms to about 10ms (to vodafone's speedtest server).
Think I'm on the 8b profile.

25ms to 10ms sounds more like a move from a 8ms profile, to 1ms.

Well I JUST had a vodafone door knocker come over saying "We are currently upgrading the internet services in this area".
I inquired as to what services they were upgrading and what to.
"We are upgrading to VDSL"
Ummmm, a bit too late for me. I've been on VDSL for a bit via Telecom.
However they do seem a bit behind the eight ball if Chorus can do their bit and enable this and I'm on it for well over 3 months on Telecom.
Vodafone just arrive saying they can do VDSL??? or am I missing something here. (currently I'm thinking this is another uninformed door knocker saying "they" are doing the work as I struck with ADSL/2+ with Vodafone again off the top of my head)

door knockers sales pitches always tend to try to make their service sound like its all them, and no one else has it..

i had a telecom door knocker come by, a few months back, just before telecom got into the VDSL market (happing sporting my snap VDSL connection, i was not interested one bit.) claimed that with telecom ADSL it would be faster, as they can give the connection from the cabinet rather than the exchange.

i turned around and politely told him, please dont spread more garbage like that around. telecom dont own the network, chorus do. and guess what, the telecom adsl plan your trying to pitch, would be far slower than my vdsl connection, which comes from exactly the same cabinet.

he left very quickly, saved the neighbours from being badgered.

i cant wait for the door knockers for VDSL to come around...

my biggest frustration of how VDSL is advertised of recent, is like its been a new and great revelation, thats just come out, not that certain company's weren't selling it until now....
