I've been on Telecom VDSL2+ for a while and I am not that impressed with the speed. But that is more to do with my distance from the cabinet than any other upstream issues I think.

Anyway now that VF/TCL have a 250G plan I am thinking of returning but was wondering do they still implement a transparent proxy that causes issues with proxy servers like Unblock etc?

It's only mildly annoying since it means you can't watch Hulu (or for that matter any streaming site) on your browser and have to use an app instead. But Hulu only has an app for Hulu+ which is not free.

Thanks

johnr: That transparent proxy has had lots of TLC lately

But does it still rewrite headers for port 80 requests? That's the killer for us who want to use Unblock and other services.

I am using Vodafone / TelstraClear HSC 130/10.
I use proxy servers most of the time, with no problems whatsoever.
BolehVPN and WiTopia both run at 90% of maximum bandwidth, given the right proxy at the right time of day.
The USA West Coast gives the best speeds, as it's at the other end of the Southern Cross cable.

When you use a VPN your traffic goes through that network. Unblock-US is not a VPN/proxy. It changes DNS so this can conflict with the telco's own transparent proxy because requests go to a different server than the proxy expects.

I  think that answers my question. The transparent proxy is still in place. I wonder why when it seems the Vodafone network doesn't appear to use one?

ADSL with Vodafone and no issues here with unblock us.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

ADSL doesn't use the proxy either.
