Hi there,

I have been using a paid music downloading website (megaboon.com) and have never had any issues with it. While downloading some music the other day I noticed the website appeared to go down and I have not been able to access it since, with the basic warning

"Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at megaboon.com."

After a few days of being unable to access it I tried the site from another internet connection and had no issues, but I still can't access it a home (from either my PC, laptop or phone). I can, however, access it on my (telecom) data network while sitting here.

Does anyone have any thoughts? It feels as though it is being blocked, possibly due to an opinion on the legality of this site?

Thanks,

J

Thanks for the reply TimA,

I have cleared my cache and browsing history but no change. I have also previously tried both IE and Chrome broswers. It is not particular to my computer as I have the same issue on the laptop though, of course, it is on the same internet connection. I can, however, access it using my phone when I use only my data connection, but not when I connect using wireless (no other change).

J

I must admit my knowledge on ping/tracert is a bit limited, but I sent/received 4 replies (approx 300ms) for ping and had what appeared to be a successful tracert via ihug.

Could be dns related. Try clearing the dns cache*, and if that doesn't work try a free dns service and see if it works, googles dns is 8.8.8.8, and if you don't trust google there's also opendns. Plenty of others, just the two I know offhand.

*on windows: start - run - type cmd[enter] - type ipconfig /flushdns[enter]

[edit]No problems here, telecom adsl. [edit2]Hmm, if I ping I get the IP as 78.138.105.29. If I try to load that, http://78.138.105.29, it barely loads anything if at all. I'm about at the limit of my knowledge, but maybe that'll help someone else trouble shot?

more than likely ur computer is bugged and all traffic is going through a proxy server? I had a mate complaining of the same thing checked his internet settings and there was a proxy setup. Ran MBAM and it fixed everything up.

TimA: Clear your cache and browsing history. AFAIK we dont block websites.

Actually, you do. Check http://techliberty.org.nz/issues/internet-filtering/which-isps-will-filter/

However, if it's blocked, you should get a DIA site saying "This is blocked, blah blah". This sounds more like a local or routing issue.

To troubleshoot this more, this requires the OP to post a full traceroute/mtr to the site in question. (unredacted)

So if we blocked this site in question: megaboon.com i couldnt access, (That i can on VDSL, ADSL, and mobile) Someone else on cable so that rules that aspect out. Now its an end user fault here.

Trace routes, Pings, NS Lookup, Can you access the page by going to its IP? (Found by running a ping) Reply from 78.138.105.29: bytes=32 time=297ms TTL=49

Please name 1 site that isnt filtered by us?

Thanks for all your replies.

@Paul
Have cleared the DNS cache and had no success. Tried the google DNS but also no luck. Incidentally the site you hit on the ping is at least the same one I did.

@shrub
My internet connection settings are still as expected. I am running Malwarebytes at the moment and will let it run when I head to bed, but even if it does find a few items I would be surprised if this fixes the issue given that the website does not load on my laptop or phone via wireless, but does work on my phone via the data connection.

@nakedmolerat
I have never believed the site to be illegal. Maybe that is me being naive regarding a pay site, but I wouldn't be asking questions in here if I thought I was doing something against the law! lol. That said, I guess my thought was that (especially after the responses that other people can reach the site) possibly my personal connection to the website has been blocked by VF.

I can't because the DIA won't release the super secret URL list that is filtered. (I've even tried OIA requests and they won't even give out IPs or give assurances that the google incident won't happen again, etcetc)

Have you tried a different machine on the same connection? How about a different modem?

But so do telecom so I assume one list would serve all providers. If your IP addr is being blocked you could download TOR and see if you can get a connection, I guess you've tried rebooting your router to change IP addr ?
