What's going on with smtp.vodafone.co.nz?  I don't have any problems during the day, but for the last couple of nights I can't send email.

It doesn't seem to matter which server in the pool I connect to, the response is very slow and I get a "4.1.8 Domain of sender <sender> address does not resolve" response.  I am sending using an non-vodafone address, but as I said I don't have any problems during the day.

I've sat waiting for a response on the phone for around a half an hour each night trying to get to talk to someone and the best thing I can say about that experience is that it drives me insane.

Anyone know what's going on?

John

Why don't you email them instead, rather than waiting on the phone. Far quicker.

Or use the call back service but what smtp server address are you using?

Hi,

Can't help with the smtp issue but wonder if it is all related - the last week or so our Vodafone ADLS2 has been shocking at nights.

Have had complete internet loss maybe 8-10 times in the last 1-2 weeks (for up to 30mins at a time and not even a modem reset fixes it) or speeds are way down - tonight my normal 10-11 Mbps internet hasn't got above 4 Mbps (although the modem status claims 13.2 Mbps connection).

Haven't had any problems in the past and can't help thinking it is all related to the increases in datacap - have Vodafone been generous to the point of over-taxing the network??

What devices are you using, and have you tested on different computers/ devices? I would doubt it would be a problem with the email server, otherwise you will be getting other people compplaining and I think it would be more likely due to the settings you are using. Can you let us know the settings you are using in your email client?

Does vodofone require you to authenticate the domain email address before you can use it with their smtp server , like Xtra do? Although that doesn't explain why you can use it during the day.

Plenty of capacity end to end, Major upgrades were completed well before VDSL was launched on core the network,

Look into your line. Not related to change of plan or our end. If your speaking of 4AM maybe there have been upgrades otherwise.

smtp.vodafone.co.nz

I've tried telneting directly on port 25 and when I'm having the problem the response is very slow and get a #4.1.8 response to my mail from: address.

I've just tried again while doing this, and it's back working now.  Good response speed and my sender address is now accepted.

Although I can't see how my line stats can determine whether the mail server does reverse DNS or SPF lookups :)

Hi again - not wanting to hijack the thread but can you confirm what checks I can to "look into my line". The slowdown/connection issues have all been from 1600-2300 over the last few weeks (peak usage time?) but then comes good again.....today however it has been stuck at about 4mbps over night and still there now.
