They can't do that if you're on a contract.

Edit: Obviously they can, with notice, if the price doesn't change.

They can't do that if you're on a contract.

They can if they give you 4 weeks prior notice and make no changes to billing.

They can't do that if you're on a contract.


They probably can if they word it right, especially if they agree only to change things to be better/cheaper.

For example, you are on contract for electricity but plans and tariffs change all the time - they just write to you and tell you it has changed, they don't burden themselves with running umpteen legacy plans.

Hahah OMG the choas that would ensue. Do you not know how completely over entitled consumers are? You subtract one thing on a plan that a single person in the whole country was using once a year for 1 second, and social media backlash would be crippling, heads roll, teeth gnash and weeping occurs.

currently I pay $40 for 3 gig of mobile data and thousands of txt/pxts a month. Which plan, from any provider, would you suggest I be automatically changed to?

I was out of contract at the time I switched over to naked broadband in Aug 2013, so that wouldn't have been a constraint.

Under contract or not you can change to any Fixed line broadband plan, If thats dropping the landline and going naked or downgrading. A contract wont stop you from downgrading or upgrading.

*Please note this doesnt apply for Ex Telstra customers.

I would suggest that no contract is open ended - VF could terminate your current contract with appropriate notice. They presently choose not to do so.

That's comparing apples to oranges. Electricity contracts have nowhere near the complexity of ISP plans - and as pointed out before, some legacy plans have allocations that have no current market equivalent and would definitely impact on people. Just automatically changing everyone when a new plan becomes available would be an unmitigated disaster.

For the record, Vodafone got in touch and we agreed a compromise for the duration of the term of my contract. So thanks to social media + vodafone.

Obviously, but just out of interest, if the terms of the contract do change, what's to stop the customer saying GTFO and cancelling it? After all, when you sign a contract, you agree to those terms. If you weren't happy with the change, would you be charged the ETF if you decided the new terms didn't suit?
