Hmmm... from a Telecom perspective as the company's yes you would of made a great customer.  From a Telecom Store Rep perspective no, he's probably on commission and most likely gonna get paid more for tying you into a contract with Telecom.

freitasm: CONTRACTS? NOOOOOO!

Agreed, contracts suck unless there are substantial savings to be had.

Even then, it pays to tread carefully as there are likely to be a lot of changes in the market during the next few months:

*  Telecom's GSM network
*  Voda's long-delayed new plans for OA customers
*  Heck, even NZ Communications might start offering services Tongue out

Not a good time to be locked into a plan...

Just a thought Mauricio:

Wouldn't you be better off using Skype over your Sierra Wireless card and try to cut down on some of those Mobile Minutes?

It worked pretty well in Rev.A coverage areas from my experience.  Or is this aimed more at roaming overseas?

Yeah, I know what you're saying...

Wandering around with a laptop trailing a USB phone isn't exactly the epitome of portability.  I was working in a Campervan on a table top and it was fine for that, but hardly the kind of thing you can use while on a bus or train, let alone while driving!

I can totally understand your reasons for wanting to leave Vodafone behind, but I think it may pay to be patient for a bit longer at least until Telecom have their GSM network operational.  It seems a bit pointless at this late stage to be buying a CDMA phone, which is what you will be faced with unless you want to sign up for a contract.  Either way, they've got you by the b*lls...

i can't wait to leave vodafone , i have had so many problems with them billing me wrong and saying they will contact me with a fix (over 2months), which they never do and just charge me again.

this added with no bestmate on contract, means i will leave as soon as Telecom get a GSM network.

No service company here is any good really, All rorts and hidden agendas.

Telecom
late fee's, extra fees % for certain payment types, hideous contract break fees, removal of critical services at very short notice, nasty connection fees, and they could not care if you left to another telco, and if you are with another telco, they will try and still rort you the connection anc churn charges. (they try charging me a $49 connection fee wher-as Callplus would absorb my telstracom line for free)

With Telecom's current pig-headed atitude, they are scaring customers off in droves.

Vodafone
Billing system which is too locked down to be of any use as a tool, poorly trained staff, a hideously unreliable data backbone, bad voice quality on occasion, Horrible implementation of any thing new, always a "ballz-up", "Smoke and mirrors" plans offer lots of one-off tricks without offering any overall value and they are very known for not keeping promises. (I asked them about the Vodalines the other day, what a NIGHTMARE! I phoned the ihug number they gave me "you cannot call this from a mobile" UGH!

Vodafone just want to hook everyone into YouChoose, hey wait a minute..... wasn't this my idea?

50% of my reasons for buying the N95 was the VoIP and 850MHz capability, basically a "world capable phone"

The two incumbents are both abusing the system as they know the main alternative aint any better.

Two companies that seem to have given me a great run?
CallPlus and Worldexchange from the dawn of time.
To a lesser extent, Clear (Telstraclear)
in the old days, Telecom (what happened)

worst... Vodafone. Xtra. iHug. Empower. Metrowater, Auckland City Council. Tauranga city council.

Quote: And your statement is based on what exactly? An intimate knowledge of telco billing systems?
Yes I have a very intimate knowledge. Aethos, Cobra, Siebel, MML and even a touch of VMS.
