Well in theory, the Orcon tech should do that when they test and set up for VDSL?

Or do I need this confirmed by Vodafone or chorus?

hey guys, some info & some questions....

Vodafone emailed to say that our area is doing a change over to improve services in our area, obviously that gotta the cabinet that TimA mentioned....
But the email also said that services are being changed from 'Vodafone Red' to 'Wholesale'.... bit unclear what that really means!
other than its cos we live in a 1/2 residential / 1/2 business area.

Vodafone still wouldnt verify if VDSL would be available or not once this change over is done, but have a date this change over for the morning of 7.7.14

we'd called Orcon last week to see if they would offer us VDSL, they said sure thing! And received the modem yesterday, just got an email from Orcon saying that our connection is live & we can set up the modem now....

Cos we haven't seen anyone & Orcon said on there facebook page that if we are a new connection (we are), then a tech will need to complete the install at our house.

can someone confirm that a Technician is meant to install a 'master filter' as part of VDSL install? for connections new to VDSL??

Im inclined to cancel the Orcon connection asap & see what Vodafone can do, seeing we have everything with them already, broadband, sky & mobile.
Whats the chances another ISP can give us better speeds in the end?? Its all about our lines & distance to the exchange or  cabinet etc right!?

your comments & info is much appreciated guys! :)

You will previously have been directly connected to Vodafone equipment at the exchange, an 'unbundled' service called the 'Red Network'. With the new cabinet in place, you'd be switching back to Chorus' wholesale equipment to get the better, closer-to-you service, as cabinets are not unbundled. VDSL is only available to Vodafone customers through Chorus' wholesale network rather than the Red Network. Hope that helps!

Wow, I that explains it perfectly, thanks Niki!

If only any communications from VF had simply said that!

:)

All VF one chick would say was that there's a service switch over on the 7th, and after that i can 'try' getting VDSL.
