I've an ex-TelstraClear home phone / internet user that recently switched over to a Vodafone plan.

Today I called someone on my home phone and was told that my number had come up as "Private Number" on the person's phone.  This was strange as I hadn't hidden my number.  I tried calling my mobile from my home phone and it too said "Private Number" instead of displaying the actual number.

Looking at the Vodafone website it says to dial *31 to block your number permanently and *32 to show your number again.  As far as I know I'd never hidden my number, but I tried dialling *32 anyway.  But that hasn't made any difference.  One thing I did notice is that the Vodafone website said "dial the code. A voice prompt will guide you further." but there was no voice prompt, just a dit-dit-dit-dit tone after I dialed *32.

I tried logging into the Customer Zone on the Vodafone website but couldn't find anywhere in there where I can change anything to do with my phone plan.

Anything else I can try before calling Vodafone support?

You will probably need to call vodafone about it.
I understand they have a number of different back end systems that are not interlinked, and telstra clear customers may not be using the vodafone equipment. Their website doesnt help when it explains quick codes for doing certain things like call forward are different if you use a chorus homeline vs one of their voip based products etc.

What network are you on.
Cable, Red Network UCLL, Telecom Wholesale, Telstra UCLL, Vodafone VOIP?
Each has different codes so that might be why it didnt work. And they automatically make your number withheld when provisioning it.

Thanks guys, looks like the easiest option is just to call them.

I switched from TelstraClear to Vodafone three or four months ago and maybe part of the switch over caused my number to be withheld.

I thought I would be switched to Vodafone's Red network, but maybe I'm not after all.

TimA: they automatically make your number withheld when provisioning it.


Seems unusual, why not just ask the question?
