Media Release

27 August 2007

Vodafone unleashes value on mobile

Customers have demanded more value from their mobile plans and Vodafone is delivering — from September 3, BestMates will be available on You Choose and Supa Prepay.

The value doesn’t stop there – our new plans include calling and TXTing bundles and customers can choose unlimited calling to any New Zealand number on BestMates and unlimited calling to Vodafone mobile numbers on the weekends.

With BestMates on You Choose you can call, TXT and video call up to 3 BestMates as much as you like for just $6 for one BestMate, $10 for two or $12 for three.

Super Prepay customers don’t miss out either. We’re now offering more BestMates on Supa Prepay. This means customers can add up to 3 BestMates for $6 each.

Your BestMates can be friends, family, colleagues or anyone else you want to call, as long as they’re on the Vodafone New Zealand network.

But the value doesn’t stop there. Vodafone is also introducing three new offers priced from just $39.95 a month:

“Talker” is for customers who love to talk. Get a Choose 60 (24 month term) and it includes:

  • Unlimited weekend calling and TXTing to Vodafone mobiles;
  • Unlimited calling and TXTing anytime to a BestMate;
  • 60 anytime minutes to any network from just $39.95

You love to TXT? Then “TXTer” on a Choose 60 (24 month term) includes:

  • 600 TXTs a month to any mobile in NZ;
  • Unlimited calling and TXTing anytime to a BestMate;
  • 60 national anytime minutes to any network from just $39.95

Talker and TXTer are available on You Choose 60 and above.

If you’re both a talker and a TXTer then “Mega” on a Choose 20 (12 month term) is the one for you. Mega includes;

  • Unlimited calling and TXTing anytime to a BestMate;
  • 200 minutes to Vodafone mobiles in NZ
  • 2000 TXTs a month to any Vodafone mobile in NZ
  • 20 national anytime minutes

Talker, TXTer, and Mega are all available until the end of November. BestMates is here to stay.

Early termination charges may apply.

This really is Great News, thanks for the heads up Paul. Laughing

Out of interest, what is the cost for the “Mega” Choose 20 Plan? All plans present very good value for money in my opinion, the only gripe is the 24 month contract for Choose 60 Talker & TXTer, it would of been great if they were only 12 months (but I'm clutching at straws here really Smile).

By the way, the link www.vodafone.co.nz/news is broken - I get an error "404 Sorry - The page you requested cannot be found. It has either been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable."

Yeah, sorry about that. I'm a bit ahead of the web team - the site goes up later today... Thought you guys might like the lead in on it.

The Mega plan also starts from $39.95/month.

The plans kick off on September 3.

Cheers

Paul

No worries Paul, great to finally see these plans are now just one week away, many people have been eagerly awaiting them, including myself. These new plans along with Best Mate's, will undoubtedly result in a flood of calls to Vodafone's CSR's. Tongue out

Thanks very much to Vodafone for finally supplying bestmate on account! I was beginning to think it may not happen!

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Great news Paul. Thanks for letting us know. Can you confirm that the TXTer Talker Mega bundles are only available for the first three months of the contract term?

The bundles are for sale for at least three months but the plans go on for as long as you want... so, sign up in the next three months, keep the service going for as long as you're willing to pay.

We won't be dropping it at the end of the three month period, that's for sure.

Cheers

Are these txt/calling packages available to customers with higher plans (e.g. Choose 250/600)?

Yes indeed - higher plans can do it (hence the "from" $39.95 bit). Once the site's up it'll have more detail on that.

Ok please shoot me down if I'm wrong... but I still can't see any real benefits in the new plans for calling 'anyone'.
Eg for calling landlines, other mobiles, etc. (not just vodafone).

Why are these new plans, and most others, and bestmate, all restricted to calling 'vodafone network' only?

I'm still waiting for better plans out, like the old "GET" plans.

I'm still on a get70, have been for a few years, and previously was on a get200 for a few years.
At least the get plans let me call 'anyone', on 'any' network, and landlines.

Sorry for the negative post... :(

But at least the new plans are a start, and a step in the right direction.
If I had lots of people to call on vodafone, then I'd take it.

All three plans do offer a bundle of minutes to call other non-Vodafone numbers:

"Talker” is for customers who love to talk. Get a Choose 60 (24 month term) and it includes:
  • Unlimited weekend calling and TXTing to Vodafone mobiles;
  • Unlimited calling and TXTing anytime to a BestMate;
  • 60 anytime minutes to any network from just $39.95

You love to TXT? Then “TXTer” on a Choose 60 (24 month term) includes:

  • 600 TXTs a month to any mobile in NZ;
  • Unlimited calling and TXTing anytime to a BestMate;
  • 60 national anytime minutes to any network from just $39.95

Talker and TXTer are available on You Choose 60 and above.

If you’re both a talker and a TXTer then “Mega” on a Choose 20 (12 month term) is the one for you. Mega includes;

  • Unlimited calling and TXTing anytime to a BestMate;
  • 200 minutes to Vodafone mobiles in NZ
  • 2000 TXTs a month to any Vodafone mobile in NZ
  • 20 national anytime minutes
But clearly we want to encourage customers to use Vodafone rather than any other network so why wouldn't we price it accordingly?

Cheers

Paul

Excellent news!

Very very overdue but better late then never..

One question, can people who are currently on a Choose 60 plan and in a contract, can they move to the talker Choose 60 plan and resign another 24 month contract even though their current contract hasn't expired? Or is this for new connections only?
