Hi All,

I have recently been upgraded by TelstraClear to their new plan allowing download speeds of 10Mbps. I have my SPA2102 connectly directly to the TC modem, and then to my Wireless G router serving my client PCs. All static IPs around.

When I run a test on speedtest.net using my laptop, I can only get a max of 6-7Mbps. I tested a direct connection to the modem and get speeds of 10-12. Originally, I figured this was due to running a wireless network, interference, etc. However, I've done some more testing and when I remove the SPA2102 I can achieve max speeds on all my wireless clients. Put the SPA back in, and speeds drop. I also tested an ethernet connection direct to the SPA and cable modem, same slower result of 6-7Mbps. This confirms the culprit seems to be the SPA.

So - is the SPA2102 limiting my throughput? Maybe the NAT/router cannot handle these speeds for some reason? Any thoughts?

Have you tried going, Cable modem, router, SPA2102.

And then testing the speeds?

If that works fien then you should be able to forward the required ports to the SPA2102.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I haven't tried that yet - but would obviously be the next step. I assume I would simply put the SPA2102 behind the router, and turn its NAT off (bridge). Unfortunately, I don't have any spare ports on my router so this would involve a new router purchase. I am thinking this would be the route to go, but I'm just surprised the unit is limiting in its current configuration.

If your SPA2102 and router are performing NAT then I suspect the double NAT is slowing the connection down.

What type of router do you have? If it does QoS then you're probably far better off running your SPA2102 after the router.

I did think of that, but my router is in bridge mode and NAT is off.

Regardless, when I connect my laptop directly to the SPA2102 via ethernet (to eliminate the double NAT possibility), I still get the slower speeds of 6-7Mbps.

Sorry - Forgot to mention the wireless router is an Apple Airport. But I am thinking if I have to go the behind the router route I will look into a Linksys WRT54GL.

Regardless, with the wireless router out of the mix and the SPA2102 connected directly via ethernet to my laptop - I still have slower speeds than if I connect directly to the modem or use the wireless without the SPA2102.
