Is there anyway to get this service working with this mobile phone?

I have had a look around online, yet any settings I have found will not work here in NZ.

Is it possible, or is it a lost clause?

Cell info display seems not to be a feature of UMTS (3G) network. Not sure why, was quite a nice feature. You should find a setting somewhere to enable it, possibly under the message settings, you may need to specify channel 050. Should then work when you are in 2G only coverage areas.

Coffeebaron, we do not use the 3g services on this phone. And yeah that was what I had foud online, but I have not seen any notifications come up!

Are you actually in 3G coverage though? Have you changed phone to 2G only mode? I'm not too familiar with the Motorola's these days, but the setting for this was usually in the "message" menu, under "info services". It may need the topic channel to be entered too which is 50 or 050.

No I am not in 3G coverage, and yes I have forced it into 2G mode.

You are correct that is how you go about setting it, yet I still do not get anything.

I seem to recall it being broken on the motorolas.. it's not a feature of UMTS as the way the network operates would not be accurate or even work really.

Did you know it was trialled on 025? same with WAP!
I still have a Motorola timeport that is stuck in "Cortenay place" from my days a a Wellingtonian.

paradoxsm, you may be right as I have set it up on a Nokia phone and it seems to be working fine. When I get home I will see the if the V3x has any messages.

However, am I getting charged for this? Or is this part of the Cell info Display service that is automatically built into Nokia's and all I am trying to do is manually set up the service?

My v3xx was the same until one day I changed a setting, and then it worked. It seems to have something to do with the menu Network Setup >> Speed:

It never worked when it was on medium and I changed to to Fast one day and it then worked! I just changed it back to medium and the cell info display disappeared, back to Fast and it hasn't come back now either ;(

Theoretically network speed is only supposed to change the network polling speed, So I am not sure what is going on
