I'm on cable with Voda. It has died. I am not a nerd of any standing. I've been on hold with Voda for 20 minutes and nobody has answered yet.

I have reset both the modem and the router. The router admin tells me there is no DNS or MAC address assigned.

Anyone have any suggestions on fixing it before I cut my wrists with the nearest spoon.

Your best solution to fixing a problem with your cable is to well, report the fault.

As painful as it is, you need to simply wait in the queue for your turn.

26 minutes so far. It's a disgrace. Not my first time on this merry-go-round either.

Sorry out and about right now but a quick Google search should help you

' VodafoneNZ cable modem settings ' or ' VodafoneNZ cable DNS '

You should give those search strings a test drive and see where it gets you.

But I did find this page:http://help.vodafone.co.nz/app/answers/detail/a_id/19653/~/setting-up-your-cable-broadband

And it says this: Residential Customers connected to the Vodafone network, with a Cable High Speed Internet connection are provided with a Static IP address, as this is how we authenticate customers using this service.

Where do I find that static ip address?

You should have the IP Address noted somewhere. If you don't have it then you have to wait for Vodafone to answer your call and get the IP from them. And make sure you record this in a file somewhere.

The DNS are

203.97.78.43
203.97.78.44

Log in to your router and look up WAN/IP address.  (or similar)

Ta. Currently up to 45 minutes on hold.

It's quite staggering really. Never has a company given less of a f ck about its customers.

Swype on iOS is detrimental to accurate typing. Apologies in advance.

Good decision.

For the record I was 1 hour and 8 minutes on hold. Then a further 15 minutes resolving the problem, which you guys had correctly identified above: lost static IP. I guess there'd been a powercut at home or something? Not sure. Anyway the modem had ditched its settings.

I was FB messaging/tweeting Voda throughout and this morning I got this:

Maybe I'm being unreasonable but I found that so enraging. Don't send me some chirpy feel-good tweet 12 hours after the fact.

If I could leave without signing up to a contract with someone else I would do it in a heartbeat.
