You can have cable in your street and have DSL over a telecom phone line

Who? You mean Spark? It's only been two years, I guess...

Make money off customers and make profit? That's a novel idea isn't it? Vodafone NZ recorded a loss of $120 million last year. Due to intense competition with that money pit called 2 Degrees that has so far racked up $400 million of losses since they started seven years ago. There is next to no money to be made in telecommunications at the moment in NZ. You can't expect to have a gold plated quality of service if the fees you pay aren't covering the costs.

Happy clear/vodafone customer for 10 years, including 5 years on the cable network, plus Jetstream and dialup. Recommend them to anyone.

Providing customers with the service Vodafone advertises and that customers pay for? That's a novel idea isn't it?

Expecting a 100Mbps internet connection to be able to stream a single Netflix movie at 8pm in the evening isn't asking for gold plated quality.

If Vodafone can't provide a service they shouldn't be marketing it.

Its still hanging in there, but logic tells me because this isn't 100mb that gigabit won't be reachable

Those My Republic fibre stats are shocking. How do they keep their business going?

We're starting to feel the congestion again here in Island Bay. Already below 50% of advertised speed. :(

I want to get off Vodafone's Wild Ride.

The same way Vodafone do, complacency and buying into the empty promises of company representatives.

Is there any value then in moving off my adsl to the cable in Karori area ? Had a sales guys here last week saying its 100meg download guaranteed and not impacted by "noisy neighbors "

Ahh those sales guys and their crazy promises. No retail ISP is going to guarantee any speed so for them to say that proves to me that outsourcing sales and paying by commission is just a silly things to do as they immediately setup a possible confrontation between the customer and the company.

Karori for me is performing really well at the moment after a recent upgrade. Having said that I think there are multiple nodes in Karori and depending which one you are subscribed to - your mileage may vary. Buyer beware.

The previous 6 months or so (with the exception of the last 2 weeks) have been completely substandard. I could watch Netflix at 2 in the morning no problem, but gave up trying during peak time.

With the nodes very recently upgraded is there anything further they can do? I would assume they would of set the new gear up with as much capacity as possible

The sales guy is a liar on both counts.

If fiber is available I'd go with that, if not and you choose Vodafone cable then it's buyer beware. Vodafone have demonstrated that honesty, transparency and communication are not part of their core values and if things start sliding again you're pretty much on your own. I'd strongly advise against signing a long term contract, they've made it clear they're perfectly happy to screw their own customers to keep squeezing money out of them, even when they can't uphold their end of the contract.
