Dudeguy: ...So one last question, how is it like for power users that download a lot? Would be nice if people on the unlimited cable plan could chime in. Are you downloading heavy with no issues? Is P2P throttled? Is there any throttling from Vodafone at all? By heavy I mean 500GB-1TB+ per month.. That isn't much but yeah just putting a rough figure.

I'm on cable 100/10 unlimited and typically use 500GB to 800GB per month.
No throttling.
Performance - local and overseas - varies markedly according to time of day - peak congestion will hopefully be fixed within the next 2 months.

Kodiack: International bandwidth is disgustingly horrible tonight. I can't watch any new YouTube videos without buffering unless I drop to 360p or less...

My peak speeds for YouTube videos that haven't hit a local CDN server are hovering around ~2.5 Mbps. Bleh. National speeds are better, but the congestion problems are incredibly apparent tonight.

Hah, I don't get much more than the top one to my local server! Nice to know my international performance is probably the same as yours though.

That's pretty much what I'm seeing, again. I get better speeds to Vodafone's Wellington server but any other New Zealand server has been around the 5Mbps mark for a few days. Two steps forward....

Good lord I wish there was a single individual responsible for this so I could go to their house and take a dump in their letterbox.
Downloading 60GB on steam at 215 KB/s, whilst hoping the missus doesn't want to watch Netflix really sucks.

It seems like things are once again continuing to get worse before they get better. This is pretty much my life many nights...

It's also incredibly telling that Vodafone cable has by far the lowest percentage of HD videos at peak hours when compared to any other "HD Verified" alternatives. Most providers maintain above 90% HD videos at all times, but there's a huge, noticeable degradation around peak hours for Vodafone cable, especially in the 9-10 PM timeframe. Funnily enough, Vodafone cable has even fewer HD streams at peak hours than a couple of the providers that YouTube otherwise recommends standard definition streams for.

Hopefully it will be possible to work out a decent refund or sizeable bill reduction once this is all finally ironed out. I would prefer if Vodafone had the goodwill to extend refunds/discounts to all affected customers, but I unfortunately don't see that happening.

*EDIT: And so begins the 9 PM rush where even the speed tests are ugly.

Hopefully this isn't one of those nights where I have to duck out of playing some games with my friends because the connection absolutely isn't performing anywhere near its advertised capability. I'm seriously beyond frustrated with how long this is taking. It's completely impeding with my leisure time, and it's stressing me out far more than it should be.

When I'm at home, I just want to relax and enjoy my time online. Instead, I find myself cursing Vodafone and becoming frustrated with relative consistency.

Funnily enough, when I was at a tech meetup yesterday, someone else on Vodafone wound up venting to me about these exact same issues without any provocation. I didn't even give them any indication that I was using Vodafone or experiencing these congestion issues! It was just such a problem in their life that it was something that they saw fit as casual conversation when meeting someone new! I can't imagine that these prolonged issues have helped Vodafone's reputation at all. Everyone that I know that's using the cable network has complained to some extent.

Have you received your "Network update" letter from Vodafone yet? (dated 07 July)

"You'll notice two step-changes of improvement over the next couple of months as we release the network enhancements we're currently working on. You will see improvements in your Broadband speed by August and then experience consistent and reliable fast speeds from September."

I live in hope smile  There are no high-speed alternatives to cable in Island Bay until late 2019.

I'm getting connected on Tuesday in Woodridge/Newlands, if the speeds are not consistent and high by September I am outta there, will go to VDSL with MyRepublic (they now offer VDSL, but are not advertising it). Only warning Vodafone. TBH I'm not happy that I had to sign up with Vodafone anyway, I have had terrible dealings with them in the past from over a year ago (in fact I'm still getting billed!)But without fibre in my area yet I did not have much choice.

Excellent news! I have seen dudes up and down power poles along my street over the past weeks, yet have seen no improvement, is there a new magic box which will bring all this pole dancing to fruition?

International bandwidth is in the toilet. Again. I'm lucky if I'm hitting 250 KB/s on some downloads...
