JohnButt: Looks like most of the problems are solved for most of the panelists, the following is the median of all panelists for each day:

Looking at the raw data, 25% panelists are below 20Mb/s and 25% about 100Mb/s.

Roughly how large is the sample size John? >500 users?

I think it's 11 or something

No way :-)  The cost of sampling one connection is way too much for a large sample, to sample we have to supply a router to every panelist to enable testing.  We have a sample of just 16 100Mb/s Cable connections out of 400 panelists overall, here is the list of average results for the two hours of 8 & 9pm i.e. from 8pm to 10pm, for each probe for yesterday, as you can see they are all over the place, but there is a considerable improvement for almost all compared to the 10th Sept:

Ok, sounds good. I'm being purely selfish, and havent been using cable since April (reno) and Bigpipe have been stellar with an average VDSL connection.... so was forward planning on whether I pulled cable out and suffered with DSL till fibre goes in 2 years from now

Maybe I might even shift my connection to 100mb....

Kodiack: The oh-so-common DPC3008 modem itself is technically capable of delivering >340/120 Mbps. I'd love to see us get closer to that. It'd certainly shame most of the fibre offerings. :D

Something in the back of my head (from when I worked there) tells me that the actual cables may not be capable of handling that much speed. I could be wrong/things could have changed however - I last worked there over 10 years ago smile

The cable network itself can cope with just about anything you throw at it. All it does is pass modulated RF carriers. The trick to high capacity is to have the right equipment modulating the carriers, to have your network super-clean of interference, and to have an appropriate frequency response from amp to amp / end to end.

Out of curiosity, what impact will the work upgrades have on the strength of signal coming into the homes? I recall they usually put those signal strength adjusters on the end of the RF cables whenever I have seen them installed. Will some of these needs to be swapped out by any chance?

I am more interested to know when node W40 will get updated. Oncall this week for work and trying to connect back into work with a sub 1Mbps speed is not fun at all.

Have any Geekzoners on cable been upgraded/cut over within the last 48 hours?  If so, what was the result?

I'm in Island Bay, and although we have not been upgraded yet (as far as I know), performance has improved over the past two days - better speeds, lower latency, less severe dips at 8-9pm.

Daytime speeds yesterday and today were 100/10Mbps local and to Sydney/Melbourne - falling to about 50/10 local and 30/10 overseas at peak hours - so I have a usable cable connection for the first time in weeks smile

Still getting under 10 Mbps here in Johnsonville. No idea if my node was replaced already. Trying to download a 300 MB app (Haka 360) on Google Play and it says it will take 20 minutes...

Also getting about 3Mbps in Johnsonville right now. Ping does seem slightly more stable though (not as many spikes, though not perfect).

Given up streaming, family has been going retro styles for the last month. Unfortunately I think everyone is adapting to the lack of bandwidth, as now things are getting down to 200kb/s at 10:45, I think people on my node are kicking off their torrents and going to bed now. So far Tony has been wrong about improving speeds in August, I await the clarity 1st October will bring to the household with regards to consistent and reliable speeds.

30Mbps in Petone, was 75Mbps this time the last few nights in a row. Can't load videos though, as usual performance far lower than tested speeds.

It's pretty sh*te tonight. I'm getting 5 if I'm lucky out in Lower Hutt. But I'm also seeing dropouts with long periods of nothing.

My current speed. I haven't noticed much real world difference, mainly because I'm barely using the internet right now. On node W93, which I think hasn't been upgraded yet.

Had to switch to our Snap/2degrees ADSL connection because tonight it won't even load Geekzone... and everything else.
