Hi Phil,

Do you guys still want feedback when these speed drops occur? I do we just reset our routers and continue?

Noticed a lot of packet loss during a phone call this evening, and sure enough, I have a skinny band connection again :(

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 234640 bps
Upload speed: 108800 bps
Quality of service: 88 %
Download test type: socket
Upload test type: socket
Maximum download pause: 794 ms
Average download pause: 97 ms
Minimum round trip time to server: 2 ms
Average round trip time to server: 2 ms

Cheers
Fraser

Unless I'm just incredibly unlucky, then this issue seems rather wide spread.

In the past few days I have had to restart my router multiple times, and before  I went away on holiday, I would have to restart my router perhaps every 4 days to fix the issue. It seems most of the time my upload is only being limited, and not my download.

Is there something special with my connection that is causing this annoying bug to keep occuring on my line ?

Well that was strange.

I just noticed my internet was crawling, did a speed test, and rather than it being limited to the usual ~256k, the test gave a max speed of ~56k...

A reboot immediately resulted in 4.6mbit as usual.

I guess you're still working on it?

Me too since this morning, I'm limited to about 260k.  Actually the Xnet speed test looks it has the hiccups and is clearly speed throttling.

Sounds exactly like what happened to me, could it be that it effects multiple connections at the same time?

Phils reply to me at the top of page 7 says it only affects 1 or 2 users while many thousand are OK.My problems really started in August when I first got a VFX line. I had it disconnected last week but the problem is still there with two restarts needed today.
I am not sure what to try next.

The problem is not yours it is ours, there is nothing that you can do or try at this stage I'm sorry until we get it resolved, and we need  the equipment vendors to assist in the resolution of the issue,

From the last few posts, it seems to be affecting people with bad connections, is this caused by malformed packets on congested exchanges?

Would be interested to hear what the actual technical problems turns out to be.

Not for me - I have a rock solid, fast, no problem connection. sync speed of around 7mbit/sec (adsl1).

If anyone has the issue and can afford not to restart their modem for a while could you please PM your DSL details, the Vendors are making progress and need some more examples to confirm some theories.

Thanks in advance

More than "a bit", most likely more than "a few bits", probably more than "a few bytes".  I think he was referring to people like me that is fine with browsing at slower speeds and do not do lots of You Tube or downloads.

Sorry should have expanded more on this, we may want to keep the faulty connection up for a few hours with perhaps some activity on the connection, so some work can be done on it interactively by ourselves and the vendors, we are obviously trying to fault the connection with our own test circuits which we have quite a few , but this does not occur that often or when we want it so looking for some real time occurances, good old Murphy has a lot to answer for Laughing
