One of my websites got hacked yesterday and sent out a ton of spam. Now any emails forwarded through some other websites on the same IP address are being blocked by clear.net.nz and paradise.net.nz

Does anyone know how to get hold of the right people at Vodafone to get my IP address off the blacklist/filter?

I don't want to go through the main customer support, as that will be a long arduous process that may lead nowhere  :)

Just looking for some clues as to how to contact the correct people.

Cheers
Brett

Their servers are probably checking against blacklists like spamhaus.  Try the spamhaus blocklist removal page https://www.spamhaus.org/lookup/

Thank you for that suggestion. I have used a tool that looks at about 40 different blacklists, and I am not on any of those.

Which is a big relief. But it does make me wonder why vodafone/clear/paradise is still blocking my email.

If it's blocked on the Vodafone side you should have an email advising this

Thanks, but I don't have a vodafone account.

I'm sending email from my own domain/server TO vodafone email addresses. And vodafone seems to be rejecting emails coming from 2 domains on the same IP address.

Cheers

You hosting provider should be doing all this for you, as it will be their IP that will be blacklisted.

Thank you. Yes, I am working with the hosting provider. However this is a dedicated IP address on a reseller account. So it is only affecting me and my clients at the moment. The hosting provider has helped confirm that the Spam has stopped as a result of the cleaning up and hardening that we did on the websites.

Cheers,
Brett

This is similar to something our customers experienced today:
Our email server started rejecting messages from some @xtra users today. However the @xtra users recieved a bounce back message which should contain the error message or the reason why vodafone's server was rejecting the incoming message.

This is the message that some @xtra customers were recieving today when they tried to email any of our customers:

Remote host said:
550 5.7.0 Your server IP address is in the Barracuda Reputation Block List (BRBL) database, bye
[RCPT_TO]

Thats basically our server saying the sending server is in the Barracuda block list - or it would describe the specific reason why.

When a server gets listed in a spam blacklist, the listing service may take them out but it can take up to 24 hours for individual email servers to remove the cached 'automatic block' entries.

In our case, we are willing to accommodate a temporary change - bigger companies dont really have the time to deal with setting up an exception for one incoming source. It would really only happen if its affecting a large number of paying customers.

So i honestly think the only thing you can do is wait. Or get your ip dedicated address changed. Waiting is probably the easiest option.

edit: now is probably a good time to be asking your hosting provider about getting an SPF record put onto your domain too.

Just went through this exercise too.

Clears system uses reputation, the problem will clear down after time.

I do have a good contact that just sorted one for me too, but I'm sure Johnr will sort it for you.
